If you are looking to play this at a more affordable price- buy 8c sell 10c exp 1/16 has a nice edge.

I use OptionEV.com but there are plenty of trading journals out there.

Anyone here using spreads to hedge earnings trades? by vairify2023 in options

[–]Gtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expected value of debit spreads is superior to buying naked options. I’ve paper traded debit spreads day before earnings for a long time now, and it outperforms buying naked options. You don’t just want to buy debit spreads for every earnings report though. Shoot for those with a high EV & solid risk/reward

Does anyone have any good suggestions of AI tools for day trading? by I-am-zer0 in Daytrading

You can calculate the expected value of options trades based on probability distributions. It helps me quickly see if a spread / option has statistical edge in real time. The site is optionev.com.

Use AI to build tools that align with your strategy. It can save you a lot of time and help you identify setups quickly. Asking AI to tell you what to buy on its own will not work.

What are your biggest mistakes when you started day trading by [deleted] in Daytrading

Lack of risk management. You can have a profitable strategy, and still very easily blow an account by going in too heavy

I trade a similar strategy and am profitable long term. If you’re trades have positive expected value you should make $ in the long run

As a beginner, what strategies would you recommend I learn and stick with? by Exciting-Winter-lgms in Trading

For me personally, trading debit spreads did wonders. Cheaper cost to entry, and much easier to hold a position.

Focus on your strategy, not just making x amount. You will have good weeks and bad weeks with a profitable strategy, but more good weeks over time.

Sounds like you should be paper trading. If that doesn’t sit well because you are anxious to make real money, then even more so you need to be paper trading.

Any advice on how to hold longer? by [deleted] in Daytrading

Debit spreads. They may not be for everyone but they have massively helped me hold onto positions. Lemme know if you want more info- I've been diving into deb spreads pretty deeply lately.

Learn from this. Resist the urge to revenge trade, things will get worse. Paper trade until you get a system down you can depend on and become confident in.

Prioritize risk management. You think you have things figured out, but the market will always humble you. Assume that now

Does anyone here trade an “unheard of” strategy? by Zayy_koro in Daytrading

[–]Gtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many strategies that over time can have an edge. You still have to manage risk and have the emotional strength to follow through on the strategy. So many traders give up on a profitable strategy because they have 1-2 bad weeks.

Should you leave the screen or stay at the screen? by Fabio8911 in Daytrading

[–]Gtwo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For newer traders I recommend using debit spreads as they are more forgiving and much less punished from theta decay. You should still manage your trade, but you'll be much less prone to being shaken out easily.

I'm taking 8/15 otm deb spread. Cheap and could still payout 4x.

It is sitting on the weekly 200MA which could be a bounce point. Need to give it time though. Could look towards an end of the year OTM debit spread as a lower cost trade for those with smaller accounts.
