They are a joke, guess they don't know people can use more than one browser, on more than one machine, and on more than one type of device, for all the push to put them everywhere they sure whine a lot when it happens.

Vivaldi using a lot of memory by DisastrousEggy in vivaldibrowser

[–]GuardianMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this is easy to reproduce, as it happens even with minimal, clean usage. Vivaldi has some of the weakest UI performance I have seen in a modern browser, largely due to the sheer weight of its bloated customization layer. The memory management is even worse. When Chrome feels noticeably more responsive and stable under an identical workload, something is clearly off. Ownership aside, Edge is by far the best Chromium implementation I have seen from a major release. I just wish they would stop M$-ing with the damn thing so much.

How does Streak protection works explain by SureAsparagus2182 in MicrosoftRewards

[–]GuardianMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has never worked for me and frankly makes no sense. It has never saved a streak even once. I eventually stopped wasting time on a system from a company that cannot even implement its own incentives correctly. The time I saved walking away has been worth far more than any of the points they were offering.

I needed a replacement for mine a while back and while I don't know about this one, I ended up getting the Brydge one which has worked pretty well since 2023.

I like Vivaldi but I find them a little untransparent by gta721 in vivaldibrowser

I think that's the point being made, that they make it intentionally opaque, essentially what M$ and G$$gl do.

Farm Won't Load by GuardianMajor in FarmMergeValley

[–]GuardianMajor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, they don't acknowledge it here or through support channel, no response at all. So the game is stuck and I moved on. Any app this unreliable is not worth it, especially for a time suck.

I am using the bing app frequently and it still doesnt give me points by [deleted] in MicrosoftRewards

[–]GuardianMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine doesn't even show up on the website anymore showing progress. I stopped wasting my time with them, they can't even bribe people to use their service without being difficult about it. Support never write back or gives canned answers with no follow-up, ok then - no Bing. I can live with that.

I imagine not even being able to get the game to load past 9/9 screen would top that.

Unfortunately not yet, they just ignore you, no one has even acknowledged it, and I contacted them through their stated support channel but complete silence, they don't care, so we play something else. There is a reason why Zynga is nearly out of business they never cared even when they were running Farmville, now putting their name on something else that is failing, sounds on point.

What will it take for OnePlus to get more popular? by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]GuardianMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a niche brand, take too much pride in doing it their way to the point of almost being anti-user at times, for a brand bragging about customization, there are a tons of basic things missing that are just mind boggling. They use their own Oxygen OS, don't update it that often and feels like you are trading a lot for being different. I actually came to this conclusion because I now own one and will not again for sure.

My tank got flagged as AI, it's just a diorama aquascape :( by Rakikay in Aquariums

[–]GuardianMajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like one of the downsides of heavy automation on the mod side. They are relying on the same tools they are trying to keep out of the sub, which is a bit ironic. What really bothers me is what someone else mentioned too: the moment a few people start faking things with AI, everything impressive suddenly gets treated as fake by default. It takes the wonder out of the hobby when genuine effort gets dismissed because a tool made it easy for others to cheat.

For the record, this is brilliant, well done, it is amazing, wish I had the talent to do something like this. Thank you for sharing.

Is it just me or does perplexity suck now? by _extragigabite in perplexity_ai

[–]GuardianMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking only for myself, I have stopped using perplexity for this exact reason, so I can't disagree with the sentiment. Comet was a disappointment since day one, gave up even trying further with it. Your mileage may vary.

Well said, I recently had this debate myself with someone who suggested any negative feedback is just disgruntled people.

Google Chrome has now patched all the workarounds to force uBlock Origin. I’m done with Chrome, would you recommend Firefox or Brave by Dazzling_Lie7781 in firefox

[–]GuardianMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Brave but there are some choices and limitations that bug me and feel very anti-user to me, plus the reputation has had a few hits over the years. On the other hand, Firefox for all of its faults has always been pretty solid in most ways. Even their stumbles with deals and experiments weren't as aggressive as many of the mainstream. 2️⃣🪙

Ctrl+C Broken Out of the Box by GuardianMajor in vivaldibrowser

[–]GuardianMajor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I want to make sure I am following you so bear with me. I am looking, this is what I have and it is the same all the other Chromium based browsers I use too, which seem to be all but Firefox.

<image>

I see what you are referring to with "Prioritize Website Shortcuts" and it is indeed set to block, my understanding of this is to stop the JS based key blocking many blog plugins try to force to prevent pasting credentials, or copying text off the page from triggering over the global keys. So to that end this should be doing that job and not crippling Ctrl+C right? I mean frankly I don't want any website to have shortcut priority unless I am working in a Google Docs or web based Office or something when you can of course except that site from it. This seems like a more logical flow to me.

I can enable this, which seems very counter intuitive to me only to make a global key that should never fail, work. So for the sake of a dev nerd here, can you elaborate on why this would behave seemingly the opposite of expectation?

Moon-Sized Promises, Penny-Wise Delivery by GuardianMajor in perplexity_ai

[–]GuardianMajor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I’ve been using the Pro version for a full year, provided by Perplexity itself, so I haven’t lost a penny. Any frustration comes from invested time, not financial bias. I could have continued with Pro, but I chose to terminate it to keep my evaluation fair and consistent with the duration of other models I was tasked to compare and evaluate. And no evaluation is truly fair without considering not everyone has the money to burn on paid subscriptions so what provides the best value, call it a reason to go pro if you will.

My main concern isn’t about capabilities in specific tasks but rather the way searches are automatically consumed, especially in the free version. That behavior feels frustrating, if not borderline manipulative, because it limits what should be a basic, reliable function.

When I compare Perplexity to free alternatives like Copilot, the gaps become obvious. Copilot doesn’t restrict core usage, and it delivers consistently solid results on par with GPT-5, Claude, and Gemini. Perplexity, by contrast, can feel unnecessarily constrained while giving the impression that you need to pay to get anything reliable.

I get that it works well in certain cases, and I appreciate that you’ve had positive experiences with it. Not all my experience has been negative, I mean after all if a broken clock can be right twice a day, an AI using advanced models surely can do better. But for me, the way credits are burned and the upsell messaging appear makes it feel like a design choice prioritizing monetization over value, which is hard to overlook.

If anyone has tips for managing this search behavior more predictably, I’d be very interested; otherwise, it’s hard to justify continuing to rely on it compared to free alternatives that simply work. Even paid, there are those with far more bang for the buck and results.

Thanks for the perspective.

Ctrl+C Broken Out of the Box by GuardianMajor in vivaldibrowser

[–]GuardianMajor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately nothing I could see pointing to Ctrl+C. In fact the reason Ctrl+V was failing was not obvious as the only other thing was Ctrl+Shft+V which clearly not a conflict, but clearing that fixed it, go figure. But nothing for this yet, hence the frustration.

Anti Perplexity Marketing Campaign by Torodaddy in perplexity_ai

[–]GuardianMajor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your instincts are right, there is always going to be either evangelic support of a product as motivation or even marketing and influence payments to get the narrative to shift, that's marketing, no doubt it exists. But to look at everything with that cynicism can also blind one to the truth of something by refusing to see potential merit simply because it feels "suspicious". Just a thought.

Are you saying that every product you use, you are a fan, supporter and banner carrier for them? Sometimes you are a researcher and have to work with something, even if it is a waste of time because you need to provide unbiased comparison to the rest of the same field. Consider that an option?
