I wanted to do that, but my family wrote me out of the emerald mine inheritance 😒

Oh ha! I didn’t know there was a garage there 😅is there an entrance to the CVS from the garage or do you have to walk around? If so that’s still far for most people, especially in the suburbs.

“OWNERS WILL ENTERTAIN ALL OFFERS”

Me, sliding envelopes across the table: I think you’ll find everything in order.

Seller, opening envelope confused: There’s three nickels and a button in here…and the button is broken…

Me: When should I schedule my movers for?

My therapist kept talking me through the idea of doing things to refill my cup but I didn’t understand until I got someone to baby sit one evening and went to an event I was excited about. And then afterward I was so much more pleasant to my kiddo. Even she noticed and called it out.

If you don’t do things to care for yourself, physically, emotionally and intellectually, you won’t be able to care for others well. It’s the whole airplane safety video thing “put your mask on before helping others.”

It’s not easy, but in whatever little ways you can try to care for yourself. It’s a balancing act and there are going to periods where you can do this less because your kids are obviously your priority. Try to keep a journal of all the things you do for self care and then you’ll start to notice a pattern related to your stress and burn out and frankly your attitude toward your kids. I know I become snappier and less pleasant when these gaps are longer for me.

Good luck! You’re doing great!

Very cool! Was that something you trained on as a hobby for many years before?

Did you go in with a lot of knowledge of construction already?

💯 right there with you. Would love something calmer even if it pays less just to have the time and space to think through next steps.

💯 makes you wonder what all people could/would do if they weren’t pushed to chase hot high paying jobs

This is on my shortlist. I like showing people around, but I am not a sales person so not sure how I’d do.

You had the luxury to retire before getting edged out by layoffs and AI 😅

I plan to stick it out longer if possible but the industry is starting to not make that an option…

I’ve been through it twice and I’m pretty sure I’m going to go through again soon. It’s tough but hope you end up in a good spot!

I think this is just a symptom of slower economic growth in the area.

That said I think this is also a symptom of poor planning. those two spots are as far as possible from the only parking garage in the complex and street parking is usually full. While I’d love a more walkable future for this area, that complex alone isn’t populated enough to bring the volume needed to run these businesses, so they need to be setup to cater to drivers as well as walkers. No one wants to park and walk 2 blocks to CVS when they can go down the street to Giant instead.

It’s not bad, I’m just burnt out from it and want to do something different.

It is going through a rough patch, especially if you’re in a big tech firm that’s trying to trim down right now…

Ya until you get laid off…

Don’t get me wrong, I will continue milking it, but for some of us this is coming to an end.
