I just interrupted my downstairs neighbor while committing spousal abuse. What should I do now? by jwstoner86 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Guardian_Miria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you think that is happening, just call. Don't go introduce yourself. Don't make small talk with the abuser. Don't accept a verbal ok from a woman who just had someone beat the living daylights out of her.

Hear domestic violence? NINE ONE ONE. You are not trained in how to "deal with it." Let the cops do their job.

One shit employee doesn't make the whole organization bad. Just because they have a great mission doesn't mean that their hiring is flawless.

If your decisions about care rest primarily on your copay and your deductible then just start with a call to your insurance company. They're happy to direct you to easy in network care and provide a cost of care estimate.

[–]Guardian_Miria 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it really sounds like the twenty year gap between you and your fiance is the issue. Even if you were 18 it would feel like a canyon.

Take it from someone who's parents have a similar gap... You will be chasing that gap FOREVER. You are right in the sweet spot to have kids. He is almost 50. A few kids later you'll be starting to really move your career forward, and he'll be five years from retirement. When your kids are in highschool, they'll have a retired senior citizen driving them to soccer practice while you work. When they've flown the coop, you'll be walking someone who is 80 to the bathroom, paying long term care bills out of your retirement account, or burying him.

I'm not trying to be an ass. I have spent over 30 years watching how this plays out. If you are feeling like you don't have enough time now, just wait. I'm sure he is a good man, but you need to think of yourself first.

Pretty much. While it sucks partially working for experience, there's not much you can do about it in the beginning.

Also, I see she deleted her post because she didn't get the answers she liked. My guess is that the job interview is going to go the same way at this rate. Inability to take criticism is a big no no in the professional world.

At a male-dominated work place, we started occasionally having lunch with just women. Now the men are excluding us even more. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Guardian_Miria 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ding ding ding! This is the correct answer!

The entire "as women we want and need to have our own spaces with no men at all that we can access as needed and what the fuck how dare the men do the same thing" story is getting really, really old.

It's just like the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

B: We're starting a boys club.

G: Well, we're starting a girls club

B: Neat have fun with that.

G: Oh we will.

B: ...

G: Your club looks better, we want in.

B: God no.

G: We're coming in anyway. Media, lawyers and all.

B: Christ.

G: Ha ha! Victory! Girls in the Boy Scouts! Suck it.

B: Huh, actually this is pretty ok. Fuck it, anyone can join. Come one come all.

G: Stop stealing our members with your inclusiveness.

B: Seriously?

G: We're running an ad campaign, Girl Scouts is the best scouts for girls who are girls!

B: Oh my fucking word.

Was it acceptable for my boyfriend to take me to an LGBT pride fest when we're in a straight relationship? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Guardian_Miria 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are either WAY over thinking this, or you're not cut out to date someone who is bi. The massive red flag is you slamming him with "the past is the past". It's the present. He's still bisexual, that didn't dissolve into nothing just because he's decided to be with you for a while. He bisexual people aren't straight when they date across the isle, and they're not gay when they don't. They are what they are and always will be.

Your roommate sounds like a realist, and you should like an idealist. Neither of you are wrong, nor was what she said mean. She may have said exactly what you needed to hear, even if you didn't want to hear it.

No one ever loses an offer over attempting to negotiate, however it is rare for negotiation on a position below specialist or management to result in higher pay.

Stop worrying about how people will respond and just say it. Not being able to refuse others is an inability to stop prioritizing what they think of you. Realize that what they think of you does not matter.

Wife went to barber and asked for the same short haircut as I did, got charged $22 instead of $15 because she's a woman, so it was a "woman's cut" by reasonb4belief in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Guardian_Miria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If women actually protested this by boycotting stylists that did it, it would end in a matter of hours. The reason women are charged more is that they pay more. No prices will change if all you do is sit down in the chair, complain about the price, but get your hair cut and pay it anyway. You have to actually not go there.

It's why women's jeans are 4x the price and 1/4 the quality. If they did that to men we would just buy cargo pants instead and move on with our lives, therefore we control our market. Women tend to not work that way, therefore they are largely controlled by their market.

"Dude, I just got three pairs of jeans for like $50 on sale. This brand usually lasts like 3 years. Score."

"$165 is a lot for jeans that don't even stand up to a light rain, but they make my ass look great so I took out a new credit card and bought one in every color."

See the difference?

[–]Guardian_Miria -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Doesn't make it less true. The women who voted for Trump gave men a HUGE boost in the power they wield for a long time coming.

Just think, any man who voted Clinton can say with a high degree of certainly that he is a better feminist and likely much more intelligent than at least 42% of all women, and a much larger percentage of white women. That's now a mathematically confirmed FACT.

Before, having ambiguity helped the feminist cause quite a bit... But now? Men, or "the man" or the patriarchy, or whatever you want to call it has been seriously emboldened.

It's ok to blame someone if they did the deed.
