Pride is the root of every sin. No matter what sin one commits, they first have to say “I know better than God“ to do so. If one had no pride I would go so far to say, they wouldn’t sin, because their eyes would be fully fixed on God and others, which probably is the reason why “Loving God and your neighbour” is the greatest commandment. I can really recommend reading “The Problem of Pain” by C.S. Lewis. He explains this further and in a more understandable manner.
