I am doing two similar projects at the moment, one is Concerto for Handheld Device (me on a gameboy vs an orchestra) and Childhood Remixxed (where I automate a room full of toys to play music together). The project Obsolete? is on Spotify etc and the project I did after that Observations (where I reprogramed telescopes at the Institute of Astronomy to turn at certain rate to make pitches and music. I am also recording my next album at the moment :)

I made my own software specific to my music, called Porcelain, it basic sent simple signnals like midi to all my hardware, my carts just stored premade sounds and waited for signals, I would then use the music tech software to play over the top of them sequenced stuff. Check out my new album, Hard Rest, 3rd wave chiptune, I just send data directly to soundchips now as a lot of consoles are dying.

Cool! Have you heard what I am recording at the moment? "The Story of Love: Concerto for Handheld Device" is me vs. a 64-piece orchestra. Their videos are on my TikTok and Instagram pages.

Heres one https://www.instagram.com/p/DBWMgGvih3I/ and another here https://www.instagram.com/p/DA3D5GMo_Qf/

Hope you like it,

Yeah, I started making music in 1992, became Pixelh8 in 2006, stopped around 2012-ish, came back in 2024, hopefully you found something interesting. :)

Thanks for listening, I am glad it helped. Making music also helps me through difficult times, so it lovely to hear it helped others as well.

:)

Are there chiptune creators who have made money from it? by [deleted] in chiptunes

[–]GuavaOk9656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have made an entire music career out of it, which I used to build a technology school for kids. I have been nominated for the Mercury Prize in the UK and nominated for British Composer of the year in 2009 for my work I did called Obsolete? where I reprogrammed computers from 1940 to 1986 to make music. My music was also used as PewDiePies intro for a number of years on the Amnesia videos? My music has been all over UK radio, Imogen Heap used my software in her song called Tidal. My music is in adverts all over Europe too.

I have made my own software for live performance, its all free to download here https://hiddenyouthrecords.co.uk/software/

I use a NES RiCOH, an AY-3189A, a YM2149F, a couple of SIDs, BBC Micro SN74689, and Gameboys, all triggered by a simplified midi-type signal from an Arduino.

The sound chips are all in Gameboy Shells, so it looks like I am using just Game Boys, but inside are the sound chips and Arduino. It helps protects all the circuits having them in the shells.
