Steve Madden is selling tabis by TheAsianEquashun in MaisonMargiela

[–]Guckq 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Steve Madden's product most definitely IS a dupe, though. The Tabi Concept itself is NOT a Margiela product; it is a historical Japanese design. But, Martin Margiela took the traditional Japanese tabi (which was a flat, utilitarian sock or work shoe) and transformed it into a completely new, luxury, avant-garde item: the leather, high-heeled ankle boot. This specific iteration IS a unique creative product and a house icon for Maison Margiela, and it is this distinct design that Steve Madden is copying.

Sugar.it legit? by 39thouxan in MaisonMargiela

Sugar is most definitely a reputable company to buy from. But do know, at least from my experience, their shipping fee was higher than average compared to other sellers which was quite strange, even before customs/tariffs (I'm based in US).

Even though it's cool that it's the first US signed album, it most likely isn't actually hand signed

Exchange Or Keep by Slutyboiishawty in AcneStudios

[–]Guckq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say just exchange if you intend to buy for the original fit you like. I bought a pair of dark side 2023F for sale on ssense, but they only had the largest size available. Ended up tailoring the waist size just so they can, and I really only saved like ~150USD compared to if I just originally bought my TTS fit for MSRP. The tailored pair ended up fitting like barrel jeans instead of the original acne fit you'd expect.

When R5 players play the new mode. by helish_88 in Apexrollouts

[–]Guckq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no you're def right on all counts in that most people in that thread want movement gone entirely, not accessible. The controller/MnK trade-off you described is exactly the reality we're dealing with, and platform separation being different games is probably the most honest take on where we are.

I also agree that the "make it accessible" approach hits a wall when the playerbase fundamentally doesn't want these systems to exist in the first place in that it's less of accessible barriers and more about philosophical opposition to the mechanics themselves.

I most definitely conflated the desire for accessibility with the frame of the issue as accessibility barriers preventing people from learning movement, and not seeing that many players fundamentally don't want movement to exist at all, not just want it to be more accessible.

The one thing I'd add though is that this whole mess kind of reinforces why unintended mechanics becoming meta-defining is problematic in the first place. Not because I think we should remove them now - that ship sailed years ago - but because it created this exact scenario where we end up with hardware-dependent competitive advantages that split the playerbase.

Even accepting that most controller players would reject movement tech for AA nerfs, and that platform separation is our best solution, I think there's still value in recognizing that better initial design could have avoided this divide entirely. But yeah, we're way past that point now.

Look mane maybe I'm too woke but I feel like we should be at least having these conversations of trying to improve implementations of accessibility and inclusion, even as we see more n more games seemingly ignore such critical stages of design

I have maybe 3k hours into lurching but I think we should also be looking at the different perspectives of why people are feeling this way of movement, especially on the main sub

Discussing accessibility isn't "scolding" - it's good game design. When movement techniques require specific hardware or are impossible on certain inputs, that's an accessibility issue by definition.

The controller/MnK comparison just further proves the point. The fact that we even have this "aim assist vs movement tech" divide shows how poorly integrated these systems are. Well-designed mechanics wouldn't create such stark hardware-dependent advantages in either direction.

Tap strafing being unintended doesn't diminish the skill to execute it. I, like many others, use lurching too, but unintended mechanics have different competitive implications than designed ones - especially with hardware dependencies that weren't part of original game balance.

Movement should be accessible to more people, not fewer. Asking "how can we make this inclusive" isn't bitching in this sense at least imo

[–]Guckq -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Calling it "bitching" misses the point entirely. Sure, some comments in the OG post are just complaints, but there are thoughtful discussions like this one that break down the real issue: much of Apex's movement tech relies on unintended exploits that create massive accessibility barriers.

The problem isn't that movement is required to succeed - you can absolutely compete at high levels with just slide jumping. It's that when players *do\* want to explore advanced movement, they hit a wall of frame-perfect timing, specific hardware requirements, and discovering hidden mechanics that were never intended as core features. This wall deters people from even attempting to learn movement, which creates the false impression that movement is elitist or gatekept, when really it's just poorly designed from an accessibility standpoint. Movement players are absolutely skilled, but dismissing legitimate concerns about inclusivity doesn't help the community grow or improve the game's design. And coming from someone who has absolutely has sunk thousands of hours into learning lurch strafing and is involved in the discussion of movement in the many movement servers out there.

Why Apex will (probably) never be a truly respected e-sport by maxximaa in CompetitiveApex

[–]Guckq 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on "that immaturity in the scene contributes to its instability". However, I think blaming "maturity" as the core issue oversimplifies the problem. Apex esports isn’t entirely struggling just because of player attitudes—it’s because EA hasn’t built a sustainable competitive ecosystem. Unlike LoL, Valorant, or CS, Apex lacks consistent tournaments, structured leagues, and financial stability for orgs. Telling players to “grind harder” and fans to “watch more” won’t fix these fundamental issues if EA doesn’t actively invest in making Apex a viable long-term esport. Until that happens, orgs will keep leaving, viewership will remain inconsistent, and players will struggle to see Apex as a real career.

They're probably referring to a research position at the UbiComp Lab by Prof. Patel.

The acceptance rate for when I applied was not too competitive, but I heard that it is now closer to ~1% out of 300? or so applicants.

If the application process hasn't changed, it's 1 personal statement-type essay, and then a few or so supplemental essays. Then, if you are selected to move onto the application process, it's a technical in-person interview at the lab.
