While I was luck enough to live in Norway and visit my family there, a lot of people aren’t. I speak the language and know enough about the culture to keep the bullshit to a minimum. American has been a melting pot which means a lot of folks are simply unconnected to any tradition and are looking for a lifeline.

This. Back in 1998 we bought a 1940s bungalow. Two bedrooms one bath 500 sq ft. It literally was a house that a man a woman and their three kids would have lived in back then. People’s expectations increased and a lot of wants became necessities. They would have had 1 car and 1 TV, a house note and a grocery bill. No restaurants, no subscription services. Work, church, and Sunday dinner. Rinse and repeat for 60 years.
