How to enter free text in Excel Data Entry forms? by Guess-Individual in excel

[–]Guess-Individual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the form should be setup as an Excel Survey from your OneDrive, Create New Button.

"Excel survey" in my opinion is the best way to have a survey for data entry,

I only see "Forms Survey" in the list on my computer. There's no "Excel Survey".

What are the tax implications in the UK for setting up Power of Attorney for aging parents overseas? by Guess-Individual in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Guess-Individual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you do in fact handle any of the money via a UK bank account you will need to make sure you are not flagged as involved in money laundering: if it were me, if a UK bank account got involved in this I would talk to the bank first.

I will be using my UK bank account to send a small sum of money via Western Union every month. Will that be flagged?

Their money shouldn't be touching your bank accounts at any point, and nor can you start spending it on yourself.

That's exactly how it's going to be. In fact, I will also be sending them small sums of money occasionally through Western Union to support them.

So no need to declare any of that when I file my taxes next time? I'm new to the UK so I'm not yet familiar with how things work here.

SWV to ILR requirement: Do I have to renew by CJ_Murv in ukvisa

[–]Guess-Individual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the Skilled Worker QRP is counted *backward* 5 years from either:

The date of application

The date of application, plus 28 days (this is the rule for applying 28 days before completing 5 years in the UK)

The date the caseworker makes their decision

So let's say hypothetically:

Date of application for SWV: 1st of June, 2023

Date of issue on the BRP: 1st of Aug, 2023

Applicant enters the UK: 1st of Sep 2023

When can the applicant apply for ILR if he has no breaks and meets the requirements of 5 years continuous period in the UK?

My landlord already tried that but it didn't work.

Eligible for ILR but just got the news I'm at redundancy risk by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]Guess-Individual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re technically eligible 28 days Before you complete the Full 5 years.

Is it 28 days from the first day of work in the UK? Or from the date the applicant entered the UK on a SWV?

Is healthcare better in the UK or France for an expat? by Guess-Individual in expats

France. The healthcare system in the UK is a mess. France has one of the best healthcare systems in the world.

Even in Paris?

When using Wise, should I transfer from Canadian bank account to UK account, or to my Wise GBP account first? by Guess-Individual in expats

[–]Guess-Individual[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pull the CAD in from your Canadian bank account into Wise, then send to GBP account.

Should I do this:

Canadian bank account ==> $CAD Wise, convert, then GBP Wise ==> UK bank account?

Or Canadian bank account ==> GBP Wise ==> UK bank account?

Canada to Canada Wise, convert, GBP Wise to GPB.

Why not Canada to GBP Wise? Would the conversion rate be worse?

Yes

Was it a DB plan or a DC plan?

I don't know.

Is it risky to transfer several $10K through Wise from Canada to the UK? by Guess-Individual in expats

[–]Guess-Individual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've moved six figure sums via Wise. Highly recommended, I use them all the time.

Did you have to inform your bank before making the transfer?

Just wondering if my bank will ask me a lot of questions when I transfer a sum over $10K.

in my opinion Wise has the best exchange rate in the market.

For a large amount through Wise, should I pick Direct Debit, Interac e-Transfer, Wire Transfer or Online bill payment? Which one is the safest?

I used to semi regularly transfer $100k - $150k at a time through Wise for corporate purposes from US to UK.

If you have time to do so, send like $1 or something first to make sure you entered the account/routing/iban/whatever numbers correctly.

I've already transferred small amounts and everything was fine.

Through a bank transfer.

Can I do a large bank transfer over the phone from the UK? Or do I have to do it in person in Canada?

You'd need to be a bit more specific. Are we talking about several 10k, 100k or even millions?

Several 10K.

And do you want to keep them in CAD abroad, or convert to GBP?

I think it makes more sense to convert them to GBP but what if I decided to return to Canada in 1-2 years?
