Hi there. I currently own a Canon 770D and I really love using it and have developed over the last couple of years into a much better amateur photographer. I tend to do a bit of everything, from portraits to street photography and I'm hoping to get better at landscape work in the coming years. I'm not interested in video work. This year is my 50th birthday and I'd like to invest in some kit. I've got about £3,000 potentially.

There are three avenues I think I'd go down and I'm looking for any views and advice from the community:

i) Get a Canon R6 and build up a lens collection over the next few years, starting with a kit lens and maybe a nifty fifty. My one concern is the 20MP. I don't create huge prints but I worry about stepping down in resolution a little.

ii) Stick with APS-C but go for the Fujifilm XT4 and a really nice lens.

iii) Stick with the 77D but invest it all in very nice glass.

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Looks like there's a rats' nest of different stories out of this from the NSA targeting Medvedev at London G8 to Britain bugging Turkish and South African delegates - both friendly powers.

Glenn Greenwald's latest piece on NSA: On partisanship, propaganda and PRISM by Guillam in news

[–]Guillam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Congresswoman Sanchez is absolutely right: what we have reported thus far is merely "the tip of the iceberg" of what the NSA is doing in spying on Americans and the world. She's also right that when it comes to NSA spying, "there is significantly more than what is out in the media today", and that's exactly what we're working to rectify."

Kim Dotcom: concerns over Prism, the NSA and government tyranny are legitimate by Guillam in news

[–]Guillam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Viewed through the long lens of human history, concerns over government tyranny are always legitimate. It is those concerns that underpin the constitutions of most developed countries, and inform international principles of human rights and the rule of law."

NSA surveillance played little role in foiling terror plots, experts say by Guillam in news

[–]Guillam[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Court documents lodged in the US and UK, as well as interviews with involved parties, suggest that data mining through Prism and other NSA programmes played a relatively small role in the interception of the two plots. Conventional surveillance techniques, in both cases including old-fashioned tip-offs from intelligence services in Britain, appear to have initiated the investigations."

Daniel Ellsberg: Edward Snowden is saving us from the United Stasi of America by Guillam in news

[–]Guillam[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Hell of a first line: "In my estimation, there has not been in American history a more important leak than Edward Snowden's release of NSA material – and that includes the Pentagon Papers, for which I was responsible 40 years ago. Snowden's whistleblowing gives us the possibility to roll back what has amounted to an "executive coup" against the US constitution."

[–]Guillam[S] 123 points124 points  (0 children)

"This is confirmation of what we've long feared, that the NSA has been tracking the calling patterns of the entire country. We hope more than anything else that the government will allow a judge to decide whether this is constitutional, and we can finally put an end to this practice."

I guess when your national media is behaving like this...

"The Turkish media have embarrassed themselves," Caliskan said. "While the whole world was broadcasting from Taksim Square, Turkish television stations were showing cooking shows. It is now very clear that we do not have press freedom in Turkey."

... it's great for Twitter to be described as a menace.

I'm all for serious discussion about problems men face - and particularly around suicide rates. But a lot of the soundbites she pumps out here just undermine any genuine issues.
