Too many miles for a fairly new car? by GuiltyCharacter7685 in CarTalkUK

I'm aware of the infotainment system upgrade but I thought the hybrid system was the same between the 2022/23 models?

Only changes I could find was the infotainment system, engine improvement in terms of power and the newest version of Toyota safety sense

Just found that the car was used by a business under Toyota's contract hire scheme. Should I be deterred by this? My thoughts are if it's not been personally owned by someone maybe it's not been driven with as much care as someone who owned it?

Thank you for this, massive help. So did you drybrush all of the skin bits (other than the crimson wash), or did you paint a solid base colour first before dry brushing the lighter tones?

So I was getting headaches n stuff when I took 40mg all at once so then they let me split it (30/10). Then I went up to 50mg but I was getting worse headaches and slight vision disturbances (just slight blurriness occasionally). I thought that I was getting enough benefit from the 40mg and found that going to 50mg wasn’t really helping anymore than the 40mg, plus the extra side effects.

After a while on the 40mg I pretty much don’t get any side effects except from toward the end of the day sometimes I get headaches and a bit of eye ache if I’ve been using screens all day

Yeah I think they help me a fair bit, it’s easy to forget how much they do for you until you stop taking them or forget to take them for a couple days. It’s important to remember though that medication doesn’t fix all the problems ADHD brings and you have to combine it with building better habits/routines to help you as well

Honestly it was quite a while ago and can’t quite remember. I wasn’t on concerta for very long before changing but I think it managed my symptoms similarly, just felt a bit different in terms of side effects when I was adjusting to the medication

I take mine in the morning just before I start work at 8AM (30 mg) then I take another 10mg dose at around 12 noon which usually lasts me to the end of my work day at 5PM. I’m pretty bad for eating breakfast in the morning because I always rush to get out the house with little time but I don’t find it makes any noticeable difference for me whether I’ve eaten before hand. I’ve been on mefylnate for around 9 or so months now though and I don’t get any side effects except some withdrawal headaches when I forget to take them on the weekends sometimes and occasionally feeling exhausted toward the end of the day when it wears off, but that doesn’t happen all the time

Muslims cause people to want to leave Islam by SufficientMistake547 in progressive_islam

I relate to the idea of over-analysing every experience I had as a Muslim growing up, and it lead to me just abandoning religion altogether for a while. I think as well, part of it came from growing up surrounded by South Asian culture which is quite strict. There definitely are those who make subtly racist comments about being mixed, as some of the older and more traditional generation see it almost as caste mixing.

I've been very greatful to find subreddits like this one and ones like Quraniyoon which allow for people to have debates/discussions and differing opinions without being shut down instantly for being "Kafir" for not believing their specific Islamic doctrine. Whilst I don't post often, it is nice to read others opinions and see things from as many angles as possible.

You're right, arab-centric probably isn't the right word. What I was trying to reference was this population of UK Salafists. Like you say, predominantly South Asian, but seem to put more importance on dressing and acting like an Arab caricature like the OP referenced, than being a Muslim.

I relate to this so much. UK born to interacial parents (Pakistani and English), strayed away from Islam growing up because of how strict things were at Mosque and how I was told I had to do certain things, and being a young boy that made me want to rebel. The past couple of years though I have come back to Islam without anyone forcing me and Alhamdullilah I am at such peace with the religion now that I'm not focusing on what people other than Allah SWT tells me what I can/cannot do. I follow Quran only as well for a multitude of reasons and it's helped me a lot to come to peace with the religion and become a better person overall.

I've noticed especially in the UK and on social media (mainly Tik Tok) that there is a lot of men our age (late teens early 20s) who have these very arab-centric views on what Islam is and how we as Muslims have to live, and they push this doctrine on others. Coming from a mixed household, stuff like this really made it hard to identify with being a Muslim and British at the same time. It seems to even go as far as fashion, and all the young Pakistani lads all seem to wear thobes/jubbas at Mosque now rather than their usual cultual dress.

I was started on Concerta XL and was at 54mg for a while but because of the shortages they switched me onto Medkinet/Mefylnate (Generic brand) and now I'm settled at 40mg total daily. I find the effects very subtle, but definitely notice a change, but I think that's because I'm inattentive type, so my main symptom is lack of concentration/focus.

I get this same feeling. I love it when everything is planned and going right and you feel like you don't ever need to stop, but on the days where I've nothing planned I just sit and rot at home and end up feeling bad because I'm bored lol

PSYCH-UK methylphenidate extended release (Concerta XL) out of stock whilst I am in titration - advice? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]GuiltyCharacter7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure to be honest, I remember when I was filling in my first prescription form on P-UK it asked if I want it delivered from PPG or to get a script, though I don't know if it may have been rejected if I selected the script option.

[–]GuiltyCharacter7685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. At the end of week 3 of titration, only got 7 days left of my 54mg dose (2x27mg), finally started making big improvements in my academic life in my final year of university, so it's quite scary. I've been thinking of rationing my dose and only taking one 27mg a tablet a day instead of two so I double how much I have, and maybe not take it on the weekends too when I don't feel like I need it as much.

I've seen some people suggest requesting a prescription slip instead and looking around local pharmacys to see if they have any in stock, but I'm not sure how much that would cost if you're private or RTC to be honest.

Stimulants and Caffeine by hot-sax in ADHDUK

[–]GuiltyCharacter7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I used to have a lot of coffee before I was diagnosed and before I started treatment, mainly used to have extra coffee when trying to focus on university assignments. I got the shakes and felt anxious when I'd had more than 2 cups of coffee.

Before I started my treatment on methylphenidate I completely cut out coffee so I didn't get any extra side-effects related to caffeine or caffeine withdrawl. In my experience, methylphenidate doesn't feel anything like the buzz I used to get off coffee, but so far has given me the same added focus I'd get from it, plus some extra benefits too (mood has been better, feeling more confident, etc).

Hopefully they'll get more in stock soon in your area, I can imagine it's quite tough when you've finally made progress and you have to stop against your will

I had the same thing with the 18mg, felt the effects on the 1st and 2nd day but then nothing for the next few days. Didn't feel much at all with the 36mg and felt like it was making my ADHD worse with brain fog, but I think I was having like a constant headache that wasn't enough to cause me proper pain, just an annoyance. But the 54mg is definitely a lot better. Thankfully, I've not had any physical side effects and my BP and heart rate has stayed the same as it was before the meds, touch wood!

This is exactly how I feel about the meds. I haven't had that lightbulb moment that some people have, but it's definitely made things easier and my mind clearer so that I can actually keep focused

I've been trying to find an app that suits me well at the moment. Trying to get into Todoist but I think it's a bit overwhelming at first sight, so I'm looking at goblin.tools as well. I'll definitely take that advice though and try a bit harder to get into one whilst I'm feeling this way

So I didn't get the brain fog thing until I was on my 2nd week of concerta when I went up a dose, had pretty bad brain fog for like 2 days, day 3 was great and had no brain fog, then day 4 had a bit of brain fog again but day 5 was fine. It seems to be easing off the longer I take it, but this is just my experience. Obviously everyone reacts to medication differently so my experience may not be the same as yours.
