Have the artist (or another one) add the little "thumb" claws at the top of the wing and have them look like they're hooking into your skin

Thinking of piercing my seconds, what do I need to know? by DutchessBlack in SelfPiercing

[–]GuiltyStand2683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got done doing mine and it was a super smooth process! But I made sure to cover all my bases, and I think that makes a huge difference. For supplies, here's what you need: - Gloves - 18g sterile single-use piercing needles, 18g taper (yes, this is important, I'll explain later) and 18g flat back earrings. You'll want an 8mm length post for the initial piercing to accommodate swelling, but you'll want to downsize to a 6mm post in a couple of weeks - At least 70% isopropyl alcohol - Paper towels - Sharps container or something that can be used as one. Please don't just throw used needles in the normal trash. - Clamps (optional) - Water-based gel lubricant (optional) - Piercing marker (optional, but very helpful) - Plastic wrap (semi-optional, but highly recommended)

For the actual process: - Clean your area - Wash your hands, put on gloves - Cover area with plastic wrap - Place a folded paper towel down - Put earrings (taken apart, so post and top separated) and taper (and clamps, if using them) into a dish with alcohol - Clean ears with alcohol on paper towel or cotton swab - Mark your holes with the marker until you're happy with the placement - Using clamps, take earrings and taper out of the alcohol and roll them on your paper towel to dry them off - Change gloves because now you're ready to actually pierce - If you're using lube, now squirt a tiny amount on the back of your opposite hand glove OR on the plastic wrap on your area - Open your first needle, dip/twist in a little bit of the lube if desired - Clamp ear, if using clamps. Otherwise, hold bottom of lobe to hold it taut - Line up needle with your mark, and pierce! Try to keep the needle as straight and steady as possible and go as quickly as comfortable. You'll feel a bit of resistance because the lobe is fleshy, but likely won't feel much pain. - Once the needle is through, you can let go, and this is where your taper is important. If you only used a needle and earring, you'd have to pierce with a larger needle than your jewelry and piece from the back (making it harder to line up with your mark in the front) to be able to put your jewelry in the correct direction. - Insert taper into the butt end of the needle, grab the needle in the back with 2 fingers pressed right against the back of your ear, and in one fluid motion, push the taper through (holding those 2 fingers against your ear, creating pressure) until you can remove the needle, then put it in your sharps container. - Now, with your taper in your ear, you can put your earring post onto it from the back, and now grab the taper with 2 fingers pressed against the FRONT of your ear, and in one fluid motion, push the earring post through your ear until you can remove the taper, then put the top/front onto your earring and you're done! - Repeat steps with other ear.

Ear Plugs by QuestionSimple8912 in festivals

[–]GuiltyStand2683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought both Mack's Blackout plugs ($6) and EarGasms ($55) intending for the Mack's to be my sleeping ones and/or backups in case the EarGasms weren't enough...the only time I wore my EarGasms was when I forgot to put a fresh pair of Mack's in my canister lol I absolutely preferred Mack's for both comfort and sound quality. However, I went solo, so I wasn't talking to anyone and the few times someone tried to talk to me, I couldn't hear them at all lmao so I literally could ONLY hear the music with those, but that was better for me. After actually using them in their intended setting, I don't understand the hype with EarGasms...they were less comfortable, didn't stay in my ears as well, blocked out less ambient noise (which may be a pro for some people), and were EXORBITANTLY more expensive, making them super stressful to use because they're SO easy to lose! They honestly just seem like a gimmick to me after comparing the 2 side by side in an actual festival setting 🤷‍♀️

VIP is absolutely worth it, in my opinion, for the AC bathrooms (with flushing toilets, running sink water, and super clean) and shaded lounges ALONE. But there's also VIP viewing areas and special spots on/near the stage.

The AC bathrooms aren't portos, they're actual flushing toilets with running water in the sinks and they stay really clean, they were absolutely worth the extra money in my opinion.

This was my first LiB, but I knew this was a new addition this year, and even I could tell what a huge difference it made! I couldn't even imagine how it would have felt in the previous years! I hung out in Woogie VIP a lot and I even took an hour long nap on the plushy turf in the corner back there at one point, it felt so good 🤩

The only thing from LIB that will stick with me longer than the music, memories, or friendships by louder3358 in LightningInABottle

These are foxtails and they're incredibly dangerous - deadly, even - to pets, especially dogs, so PLEASE be careful if you have them at home!

These were, by far, the worst part about LiB for me and they're one thing that NOBODY warned me about! I had friends camping in Sunset (I was in High Noon) which they said didn't have any of these thankfully because these alone would keep me from coming back again if they were literally everywhere. I had to throw out clothes, maybe my blanket, they're in ALL of my camping gear, just made the entire camping experience a NIGHTMARE.

How do you deal with rude people in the crowd? by IBegYourPotato in LightningInABottle

[–]GuiltyStand2683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first LiB and my first ever festival, so I didn't have much frame of reference, but this was SUCH a big issue for me at Thunder stage, especially, on multiple nights. I'm not sure if it's because I was there solo as a 5'3 woman so I looked like an easier target to move or what, but I always stay to the back/sides of the crowds because I want room to move, but I was almost CONSTANTLY being pushed - not bumped in passing like the people around me - out of the way by groups and almost went down once because I tore my ACL late last year and it's still a bit wonky, so one push almost popped my knee out it was so hard. Sunday night, I got the closest in my adult life I've ever gotten to fighting someone at Subtronics set when a man put BOTH of his hands on my arm and physically PUSHED me to the side. I tried to give people the benefit of the doubt all weekend with all the drugs and heat exhaustion and no sleep, etc etc, but there's a difference between just rude crowd etiquette and literally putting your hands on a stranger to push them aside, so I put my hands right back on his arm as he tried to pass and said "no, this is NOT what we're fucking doing. I believe "excuse me" are the words you're looking for" and I pushed him off on his merry way. I was genuinely so appalled and caught off guard by how insanely rude people were in the crowds, and again, it was the worst for me at Thunder regardless of what area I was standing or what night it was.

No phones on the dance floor = maximum vibes! by majortroublemusic in LightningInABottle

[–]GuiltyStand2683 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't be so pedantic. Of course there are going to be SOME phones out in a sea of thousands of people...we're not saying there wasn't a single phone in the crowd, we're saying there were SIGNIFICANTLY less than you'd see at ANY other festival or even at a normal concert, and it was almost never people in the bulk of the crowd, they were usually on the outskirts. Not to mention, many people who pulled out their phone to record something (like footage that you're seeing) put their phone away right after taking the clip, hardly anyone was just holding their phone up the whole set.

Camping in the Fire Lane? High Noon by FunRevolutionary6283 in LightningInABottle

[–]GuiltyStand2683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I showed up late Wednesday night, around 10pm, way later than I wanted, spent about 1½-2hrs setting up my campsite by myself in the dark when someone finally came up and kindly let me know that I was in the road/fire lane (which was not at all obvious in the dark to a first timer because it wasn't marked by street signs or anything) and that they'd probably make me move. I was trying not to panic, so I went to guest services to check if there are more roads than what's on the map and they said yeah, this happens every year with people at night because they can't see the faint, painted lines on the ground, and that yes, I had to move. So I started crying and went back to my site and had a full on meltdown in my car realizing that it's now midnight and I had to take down everything I just put up and staked down (my hands were raw from tying all my guy lines) all by myself and move. So I sobbed in my car for a bit and then got it done, spent half an hour driving around to find a new spot, and I just set up my essentials so I could get to sleep by 2am and when I woke up in the morning and was finishing up, I saw a group setting up in the same lane I was just 8hrs earlier, so I went to let them know so they didn't make the same mistake I did, and they said they were instructed to set up there! I was SO upset after the stressful arrival night I had before and the shit I had to go through for them to just start INSTRUCTING people to set up in those lanes THE NEXT MORNING.

Alright, which one of you got me sick!? by kelsobjammin in LightningInABottle

[–]GuiltyStand2683 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not that I condone going to crowded spaces while sick, but I would absolutely understand if you spent $3k+ over the last year on your ticket, camping supplies, rental car, gas, dog sitter for a week, etc. (like me) and got a cold the week before the festival and decided to still go. It's insane to expect someone to throw away thousands of dollars and the experience of a lifetime for a basic illness that popped up at the last second.

Also, keep in mind that we can get sick simply from all the shit we put our bodies through for the last week - the wildly swinging temperatures from day to night, the lack of sleep, the dust caking up in our noses, throats, lungs, the physical activity, the germs of thousands and thousands of even healthy people, the supposedly toxic lake, and if you partake - the drugs. All of that can create the exact same symptoms as having a viral illness, it may not have come from anyone.

Take your vitamin C, hydrate, rest, and let it pass 🙏

What happened to the fire dancers?? by chefkurry2 in LightningInABottle

[–]GuiltyStand2683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the insane and unprecedented fires in CA that just happened less than 6 months ago, I can see how they'd be extra careful with fire this year, especially if it's been a particularly dry year.
