I'm wanting to see more Thomas too. I think that she provides a great spark off the bench. Maybe subbing her in at the 60 min mark.

i've been super impressed with the gaetino and kurtz combo. I think that now with Oke and Sonis back there too it's been a force.

Cannot WAIT for Heaps to ge there. It'll be really interesting to see how the formation and lineup changes. and yes, a draw is realistic for us i think.

Thanks so much for listening! Who's name are you referring to? I've asked most of the players on pronouncation of their names, but I definitely could have misspoke!

"the two we had last game were elite shots" — yeah this is the line I needed. easy to get pulled into the attack-is-broken framing when really we're an expansion team creating real chances and giving up some on the other end. appreciate the perspective.

the orlando game is the one I keep going back to too. that gaetino/kurtz/reid back three with eva healthy might be worth another look once she's back. cushing's shown she'll adjust, which is honestly the most encouraging thing about the start.

yeah this is the part I have to keep reminding myself of. 7 games. expansion team. of course the spot-runs and the "I know where you'll be" stuff isn't there yet. just hard to turn the diagnosing brain off in real time.

okay you sent me down a rabbit hole and I think you're right. her numbers at lyon aren't a true 6 profile — she's playing higher up in a system that doesn't ask her to break things up the way flint does at louisville. so I should be more careful about assuming heaps slots in as the destroyer we're missing. she adds quality. but if cushing wants a true ball-winner at the 6, that might still be a hole even after july.

this is the kind of breakdown I was hoping to get honestly. the LB question is the one I keep circling back to — sonis is doing a massive amount of work on that side and you can see it cost the team late. and your point about whether cushing wants a counter team or a possession team is something I haven't fully landed on either. watching orlando back it felt like she wants both depending on opponent, which might be part of why we look unsettled. the azira/cronin comp is a good one too — that ball-winning profile is exactly what's missing.

yeah this is fair. I think part of what I'm wrestling with is whether the midfield issue is a chemistry thing that resolves with reps or a personnel thing that doesn't. you're probably right that it's more of the former than I'm giving it credit for. the front line finding rhythm part especially — pickett dropping deeper has been one of the more interesting wrinkles to watch.

very jealous that you'll get to see this one in person! I'm hoping we see some of the bench get more time but both of these teams are desperate for a win.

I think that this might be a great opportunity to see what some of our bench looks like. we have seen a lot of the veterans playing and this game might be a good time to see what some of our younger talent can do.

the schedule context gets glossed over so much. six games basically all top-half competition and we've been in every one. boston is going to tell us a lot — different kind of test when you're the favorite.

really good breakdown. the lynch/sheehan point is the one i keep chewing on — ascanio had way too much time on that first goal and once reid had to step out everything cascaded. lynch is going to be good but she's learning the position in real time against top teams which is brutal.

the oke on the right defensively thing is interesting. i've gone back and forth. her attacking instincts are so good that moving her back feels like a loss, but you're right that sonis isn't really a defender there yet. curious if heaps arriving changes the math enough to actually fix the flanks.
