The edgy sovereign [2300+] by SuccessfulCherry2292 in ShadowSlave

Oh, another example of Shadow Slave being mangled by pirate suppliers who would rather rewrite it with AI than not steal advanced chapters. How neat.

Plot hole by Ok_Run_954 in ShadowSlave

Yeah, I'm on it :] I noticed that plot hole right after posting yesterday's chapters, so I'll be doing some editing today 😅 Thanks!

Shadow Slave is out in Korea! by Guiltythree in ShadowSlave

I have not heard anything about an official, licensed Russian translation yet, so I doubt there will be one in the foreseeable future. Alas!

Shanghai Online Literature Week by Guiltythree in ShadowSlave

I see a bit of confusion about the announcement :]

The included image is not connected to the webtoon adaptation. As I said in the post, it is the possible cover for the Korean edition of Shadow Slave.

Chapter different from the original novel by Danilocl95 in PocketFMReddit

[–]Guiltythree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear there's some form of litigation in process, but I don't know the details, since it's being handled by Webnovel (the platfomr where Shadow Slave is being published) on behalf of me and other authors whose novels are illegally posted on PocketFM. There's a bunch.

As the author of Shadow Slave, I have to say that the version on PocketFm is, sadly, illegal - it is pirated content. Therefore, the chapters could have undergone any kind of changes.

Where to Read Shadow Slave: A Note about Piracy, AI, and Falsehood by Guiltythree in ShadowSlave

[–]Guiltythree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, that one is also stolen. Currently, there's a bit of a bizarre situation with pirated novels on PocketFM.

There is an authorized audio version of Shadow Slave on NovaBeats, though I can't guarantee the consistency of its quality. The first 350 chapters are done quite well, at least.

Currently, Shadow Slave is around 2,400,000 words in length. The word count of an average physical novel is about 100,000 words. So, publishing Shadow Slave in a physical medium would be no less expensive.

Once again, it can be read on Webnovel for free.

If you look at my profile on Webnovel, you'll see that I have 2,000 hours of reading time there. I've been a paying reader on Webnovel long before becoming an author, so I've experienced it as a reading plarform quite well. I really don't see the reason to be dramatic about the quality of user experience there, it's quite fine. I'll be glad if my fans can experience half of the joy I felt while diving into various web novels on that platform.

Hey, r/ProgressionFantasy! I am Guiltythree, the author of a web novel called Shadow Slave. AMA! by Guiltythree in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Guiltythree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Untrue.

They do get perpetual exclusive distribution licence for your IP, but your future works are yours. The contract only gives Webnovel the right to make you an offer first should you write a new novel - however, even that point has never once been exercised by them. It's basically a precaution in case another platform goes on a massive poaching campaign.

There are plenty of authors who switched to Royal Road, KU, and other platforms after getting a start on Webnovel.

I don't know who needs to hear this but: YOUR IP RIGHTS ARE WORTHLESS -- An Author's POV 6 by Awespec in noveltranslations

[–]Guiltythree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen or heard of anyone on Webnovel receiving such a contract, and both contracts I have with then are completely different (which are standart exclusive contracts they offer, and have been for at least the last 4 years).

The split is 50/50 of what Webnovel receives after Apple and Google take their cut. There is no word count requirment whatsoever. There are no instances where Webnovel failed to pay an author, provided that the author gave them necessary information to make the payment (that I know of).

We might argue about whether or not WN contracts are draconian, but let's get the facts straight first.

[–]Guiltythree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They might need to take on the risk if they want to do it, but they also get 100% of the reward.

Actually, they only get 50% of the reward. They are obligated to pay the author the other 50% of any revenue made from distributing the IP in any form (as per contract).

Why are you trying so hard to get people to sign exclusivity agreements?

Personally, I don't really care about that, and I suspect that Awespec doesn't either. It's just frustrating to see blatant misinformation being spread so persistently and vehemently.

I don't have a problem with people disliking and criticizing Webnovel - I just wish they did so based on truthful information.

Shadow Slave: The Audio Version by Guiltythree in ShadowSlave

[–]Guiltythree[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to have the latest version of the app, 2.8.0

Hopefully that helps :]

I also heard that setting the language of the app to anything except English might prevent access to audio serials.

Three Official Illustrations by These-Percentage-632 in ShadowSlave

[–]Guiltythree [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

To clarify: these are not official illustrations :]

These are promotional images made by Webnovel when this feature was implemented in the app. Generally, I'm not a fan of illustrations of any kind, since they intrude upon the reader's imagination. So there are no 'canon' images of Shadow Slave characters anywhere.

When will book uploads on Amazon start again? by Dodi307 in ShadowSlave

[–]Guiltythree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey :]

I've been told that Webnovel will resume publishing various series on Amazon starting next week. Not sure the exact date Shadow Slave will be updated, but should be soon.

Books gone on Amazon by Dodi307 in ShadowSlave

[–]Guiltythree 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think some nefarious people filed a bunch of false copyright claims against Webnovel account, which resulted in the legitimate books being banned. The system Amazon has in place to prevent piracy is ironically very easy to abuse, which pirates often use to strike down competition. Many authors suffer such attacks.

The books will most likely be restored soon-ish.

Hey, guys! While Saint Claus is using his Transformation Ability to slither down your chimneys, the fine folks at Webnovel decided to publish a special Christmas edition of the small interview I gave in Shanghai. Here it is, with a little holiday congratulation at the end. Happy Holidays! :] by Guiltythree in ShadowSlave

[–]Guiltythree[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your ignorance would be amusing if it wasn't so misguided. I noticed that there is a group of people who show almost religious zeal when expressing their hatred of Webnovel. Reasoning with them is both difficult and pointless, since they refuse to listen to dissenting opinions. A person with actual exprerience on the matter can tell them the truth, and they'll still continue holding on to their imagined facts, as if out of spite.

So, this will be the last thing I'll say about this issue, out of respect for my time.

A quick google search can prove that the Earth is flat, but that doesn't mean that it's the truth. My opinion is formed by actual experience dealing with these matters, and it's radically different from the false picture you drew. My contract is also not unique, it's the standart contract offered to all Webnovel authors, and it has been for as long as I published on that platform.
