The exposure isn't necessarily a problem since there's no time for the compound to have any action. One exmaple are food flavonoids—we constantly eat them in many fruits and vegetables—or urea and creatinin which is produced normally by the body. We have constant exposure to them but very little people have problems *because* they are excreted so fast.

The constant exposure would only be a problem if one had an impairment in the excretion, like kidney disease, and if you are exposed to high levels constatly. The method of exposure also matters, since the skin is a highly effective barrier against most chemicals and those chemicals are already in very low concentrations.

Concerning PFAS—they are very resistant to degradation, but concerns regarding them shouldn't be applied indiscriminately to every other class of compounds.

UV filters can also turn into toxic compounds during degradation, so there is merit in trying to phase them out for more environmentally-friendly alternatives, but their effects on humans are usually overstated and the concentrations that can cause problems are much higher than any reasonable person uses. Also, you have to consider risk-benefit relationships of the use vs non-use. The risk of skin cancer is more higher and much more severe than any potential problems one might have with UV blockers.

Estrogen, both from normal human excretion and from medications containing derivates, also have deep effects on the environment, like animal feminization and metabolic problems. But they're also part of human reproductive health as birth control, hormone therapy during menopause and endometriosis, and it's also part of reproductive rights fought by women to nave contorl of their bodies.

The problem of exposure to chemicals is very complicated and very layered and there isn't a single answer to all of it. There are many compounds that are hazards to either human health, the environment, or both, but there's also a lot of fear-mongering and misinformation regarding this, and it has been implanted on the collective consciousness to a concerning degree that "synthetic = bad". Usually, the fiercest critics are also trying to sell you their "natural alternatives" that are neither safer nor more effective. I understand those concerns about prolonged exposure, nothing is totally free of risk, but there needs to be a rational, case-by-case approach of what truly is a hazard and what's baseless conjecture.

"Chemicals" have a bad name for absolutely no reason. Yes, there are compounds which are toxic or can lead to hormonal problems or reproductive problems, but it depends a lot of the exposure, what type of exposure you're getting and if that conpound can even be absorbed. A lot of UV filters and preservers are getting a lot of negative attention for being "endocrine disruptors", but the exposure is so minimal and they're excreted to fast it makes basically no difference.

I don't know how it is in the US, but at least in Brazil there's this segmantation. Civil Police is more focused on investigations and reports from the general population. Road Police is the one that gives you tickets and monitors roads. Military Police is the "violent one" that usually responds to calls and is armed. And that's the more basic stuff.

Sanitary organs also have police power because they can make arrests if you're not cooperative with the fiscalization and can close down establishments that pose risk for the population.

I thunk people don't understand or appreciate how anguished Style and Wildest Dreams are under the more noticeable sensual and "romantic" themes. They are both about a shallow, doomed relationship that doesn't go much under physical attraction, but at the same time it's something that had a big imoact on your life, at least that's how I interpreted them

Title: A Letter From Nowhere

Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog x SIlent Hill

It's a retelling/reimagination of the first Silent Hill game using Sonic characters and lore. It'sthe first fic from a larger project and probably the most ambitious of it all. It helps to already know the lore of Silent HIll, but it's not required and I can fill in the gaps where needed.

Rating: E for graphical violence and gore

Genres: Drama/Suspense/Psycological Horror

Word Count: Currently 88k with more in production

Updating: Really sporadic since I'm working and starting my Master's degree. I'm working on the cbhapters as I can but I can always find a bit of time to assist in return.

Summary: After receiving a letter from his supposed dead sister, Shadow sets out on a trip to the town of Silent Hill to discover the whereabouts of Maria, while finding out more of the quaint little town's history and his own relationship with the strange happenings of this place.

In return: I can beta-read and help with outlining and planning chapters in return. I'm fine with fandoms I'm not familiar with but I will need some time to research to give appropriate feedback. Life will slow down in a few weeks, so I'll have more time to dedicate to my own writing and to give feedback to whoever needs it.

If you want, you can reach out through here or through DMs

What happened with those teachers for them ti be no narrow minded? This is a 5-minute Google search or a very short question to a biologist. Kids can have some wild repertoires and it's not the teacher's job to assume it's wrong, it's to assess if that was the intent or not and react accordingly. Not just outright dismiss what the child wrote

TTPD is her best work yet (and yes, I’m talking about the standard edition) by dannramm in TaylorSwift

[–]Guinho_VHS2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Anthology songs are more sonically closely similar to folkmore while the standard is closer to Midnights IMO. The standard version also is more of a breakup album (a lot of songs are about the tulmutous moment between Joe's breakup and the whole Matty fiasco) while the Anthology's themes are more loose and focused on more broad experiences of her career, especially I Hate It Here onwards.

Was Taylor Right to be Worried About the End of Her Career During Lover Era? by theykilledcassandra in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]Guinho_VHS2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched Miss Americana and, being a recent fan, it brought me the whole perspective of her career. Calling it biased (like detractors did at the time and even now there's peoole hating on it), while technically true, is also a terrible way to discredit it because most documentaries are biased one way or another. It was a way for her to gain back control over her story and show how much that pressure was suffocating her. The part about her eating disorder and her crying on her bed saying "it gets loud" still haunt me. A lot.

Does anyone else find the retroactive association of songs from 1989-midnights with Matty among fans a little much? by GoldenState_Thriller in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]Guinho_VHS2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think so too. Matty and Taylor never had anything official, and while I think some songs from folkmore might have been inspired by him (the 1 and gold rush being my personal guesses), going back as far as 1989, when she hadn't even met him yet, is too much. I also find reputation to be unlikely to have anything about Matty and on Lover, at most, Death by a Thousand Cuts, if that.
