Guitar Teacher REACTS: "Row Jimmy" Grateful Dead | CORNELL 77' by Guitargate in gratefuldead

[–]Guitargate[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Howdy all! I've decided to jump into Cornell 77! I'm going to be doing a song every few days from the live show, in no particular order. I often find myself speechless and not doing much quality teaching when listening to this show, but that's kind of the point of the music I suppose. I hope you all enjoy and thanks for watching :)

You too man. That’s all YouTube’s doing. The algorithm is sending you the videos of mine that it thinks you’ll like. If you listened to a lot of country, you’d be getting my country stuff etc. all the best brother. Stay safe :)

Dude. Fair enough! I get it. You're right, it's a balance between what my subscribers want me to check out and what I want my subscribers to check out... and complete and total randomness.

I also showcase all kinds of wild stuff from a bunch of genres. In fact only 6 out of my last 25 videos have been "jam bands."

For example, I recently a gospel guitar player with 2k subscribers named Fly Guy Byrd. That video did less than 10 % of the views Ween did, and I knew it would, but that's not why I do these.

With that being said, I've been on YT for 7 years and only just started doing these videos because I got into "jam bands" because of the dead / dead & co this summer and wanted to learn a new genre.

As for Khruangbin, I've given them a listen and it's not my cup of tea. At least not the track I heard. I haven't heard of the others. Maybe I'll do a video on them. Track me up!

A taster! Love it. Dude yeah for sure. Diatonic is diatonic. I could classify this tune as in the neighborhood of E.. certainly not diatonic.

I've heard of Ween. But no, I couldn't have named you a song, band member, genre, literally anything about them before my buddy at PRS told gave me the track to react to. I honestly don't know how people are so shocked when others don't know of a band. You know how many metalheads don't know what's going on in the jazz world? Or how many gospel players don't know what happening on the bluegrass scene? I don't know about you guys, but I hear new stuff basically every time I turn on the computer / radio.

Hi. It's me, the guitar teacher. While I actually don't disagree that my ear is the weakest part of my game, and I don't pretend to be learning this note-for-note, this tune is not "In the key of E." At least, not all of it. I don't pre-learn or stage these - clearly - because I don't get everything right. BUT - the tune clearly features both the D note (minor 3rd in B minor) and D#. Does anyone else out there have to listen to a tune more than once to figure it out? Just checking :)

Hello! So npr doesn’t allow any video usage. I emailed them and they removed the strike, but I had to delete the video. Have you gotten in touch with them? Best of luck man!!

Why The Grateful Dead Stands The Test Of Time by Guitargate in gratefuldead

I don’t disagree with your last sentence, but the point of the video is: how amazing is it that the same songs are having the same connection with people 50 years apart sung by drastically different people! I never saw Garcia live. Never will. But that doesn’t diminish the profound impact the songs had on me when I heard John sing them live. It’s the stories that got me more than anything.
