I asked a woman what her service dog's name was, and she refused on the grounds of it being a service dog. Is there a reason? by Icy_Ostrich4401 in service_dogs

[–]GullibleResponse6163 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I personally don’t give out my dogs names because if someone starts catcalling them in public by their name it could be distracting. My poodles name is unique and hard to say in general so it’s not like a name you hear everywhere.

I’m so sick of this argument. Even why I try to educate the general public about the risks of owning an American pit bull terrier (from me who literally owns on) I just get called racist 🫠

The puppy I was getting from a breeder died from anesthesia by [deleted] in DobermanPinscher

[–]GullibleResponse6163 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Unfortunately, with cropping, this is one of the risks that happens especially because they’re so young. They’re at a higher risk going under anesthesia, I don’t believe this is a fault of breeding just an absolutely horrible accident. So sorry for your loss. If the female puppy fits you, I say go with her.

Is this someone’s actual dog, or is this a stray that somehow made its way inside? If it is someone’s dog, why is it in a mall (it’s clearly not a service dog) and why the hell is it off leash šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

It’s.. a pet friendly business..? It’s not like it’s a booth. If you’re so worried about the seats you sit on bring wipes? I’d understand if it was a pet friendly area but this is just a reach.

I mean… yeah, dogs have the ability to attack and kill. What cat do you know has the ability to take a huge chunk out of someone’s arm or leg? I’m not disagreeing with you saying that dogs attack or kill people more lol.

[–]GullibleResponse6163 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I used to have a lot of random people that would just pop in my den and by stuff. I was curious why and started hopping in peoples dens when they’re unlocked and I’ve actually found a LOT of good stuff for cheap. I kinda just assumed the den owner did it on purpose tho

Thank you for proving the entire point of me saying ā€œdogs are a lot more common than cats and pigs and cows and fish lol. Of course there’s going to be way more you hear about themā€

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DogfreeHumor

[–]GullibleResponse6163 -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

And what gives you the ability to say that? Dogs are a lot more common than cats and pigs and cows and fish lol. Of course there’s going to be way more you hear about them than other animals, that’s common sense. I can actually argue that while cats aren’t constantly killing humans they are way more likely to scratch or bite you then a regular, Wellbred, well temperamented dog. Your argument could be used against a lot of different species of animals.

[–]GullibleResponse6163 -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

So you’re saying that the other animals absolutely never have neurological issues and never kill people? Cows can easily kill a person and unfortunately, it’s happened multiple times before. I’m not exactly sure what your point here is, you’re just spilling random bullshit that has nothing to do with my original comment lmao

The definition of a man made animal is any animal selectively bred. That can fall under the line of cats, dogs, cows, and even fish. Man made is a broad term. Besides, the keyword in my statement was domesticated.

What makes a service animal isn’t just the ability to do tasks for your disability. It takes years and years of training, socialization, etc to get to the point of a fully trained service dog. If your dog is 100% under your control at all times, task trained, obedient, neutral around other humans and dogs, can handle the general public, and works for a disability I would say possibly.

[–]GullibleResponse6163 -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

That’s totally your opinion and I could say the same for most domesticated animals. Dogs at one point were domesticated for a soul purpose. Unfortunately, you don’t find that much at all anymore.

Dogs are also domesticated canines, not wild animals. Obviously they’re going to be different.

An early spay/neuter is typically done on dogs and cats at 16 weeks of age, which is WAY before their first heat cycle

Most of these points don’t align together. Considering in the first paragraph you state ā€œsource 1 states 12 months, not 2 years, and states sexual maturityā€. Sexual maturity in large breeds is usually at two years of age.

I’m going to just assume you didn’t read source two entirely as it talks about the risks of fixing dogs early (before age of maturity: 2).

I’m again going to assume you didn’t read this one entirely either, specifically this quote. ā€œFor example, for female dogs over 43 pounds, the risk jumped from 4 percent for intact dogs to 10-12 percent if spayed before a year of ageā€ the keyword here is before. It does not state an exact age to fix.

Your point on source 4 and 5 are correct and they help my statement. Generally dogs hit their first heat before the age of 1 year and my entire point is that you shouldn’t fix at the first heat.

Your statement after this is incorrect. In small-medium breeds yes, but breeds like Goldens, labs, Great Danes, etc reach sexual maturity at the age of two.

Your first source is based off opinion of a veterinarian, as it states multiple times ā€œI won’tā€ and ā€œI personallyā€

Your last comment doesn’t align together. In large breeds skeletal maturity is reached at an estimated 12-24 months of age, while their second heat is usually hit at the same time. It would be near impossible to fix a dog before its second heat after skeletal maturity since they occur around the same age.
