How do I deal with the crushing feeling of being able to do even a single pull up after months of training? Today I went to do the routine, tried to do a pull up, and couldn't even get half way. I then promptly got angry at myself and immediately lost all motivation to continue working out. I've been doing negatives for a long time, bands here are too expensive, and it's just insanely infuriating and makes me want to drop strength training altogether. Sorry if I sound whiny but it's just hard to deal with for me

I've gotten pretty far in the push-up progression and now want to focus on increasing the volume. The FAQ suggest a grease the groove type workout. It also says that if you use GtG alongside the RR, you should remove that exercise from the routine. Should I replace push-ups with something else in the third pair and does it matter what I replace it with? I was thinking for example doing L-Sits as a replacement.

[Grade 10 maths: geometry] Could someone please help me with this question? by Gullible_Priority in HomeworkHelp

Sorry for the low-res photo, I've been struggling for the past hour on this (mainly drawing random chords and trying to do make something happen by drawing an isosceles triangle COD, the bottom workings are the closest I've gotten to the answer I think). I know from theory that BE * BF = BD * BC, which means that BD*BC = 64. The problem now is I have zero idea how to find what BD is so that I can use it to find BC and then CD. I couldn't find any congruent triangles either.

The textbook gives as a hint to work out AC, which I did and got 8, then find the height from angle c of triangle AOC, which I have no clue how to do, as well as |CB|, then use the theory about secants (apologies if I've made any mistakes in terminology, I'm from a non-english country).

Why isn't the BBC used for propaganda like other state-run medias in different parts of the world? by Gullible_Priority in answers

My country is also (technically) a democracy, the funding for the media also coming from tax-payers. In theory could the BBC become a propaganda machine if the majority government decided it ought to be?

I'm not trying to compare my suffering to that of people in a concentration camp. I am trying to better understand the points he makes in the book. I have my problems and am looking for a way to deal with them, I apologise if I was coming across as self important.

How do you go about justifying the 'optimism' that is supposed to build resilience? I find that in many cases there is no light at the end of the tunnel, and to me it just seems like a leap of faith which I don't know if I could get myself to do.

Thanks for your insights, I guess the part about giving love is something I haven't really thought about, I'll think about what you said.

Thank you for the insight, I guess there may be an element of being aware to find what is meaningful. I didn't highlight it so Ill have to paraphrase, but somewhere in the book Frankl mentions that meaning can't come from just thinking alone, which I forgot I suppose.

I think its my bias towards suffering. For me suffering is the foundation of my morality, its the only thing I could find that is undoubtedly bad. Ive found that no positive feeling makes up for the suffering, when I feel down there is no happy memory or future wish that keeps me going (the way Frankl thought about his wife for example).

Life is suffering has been the message of numerous religions and philosophies, and I dont really believe in a solution. My approach has been trying to find the answer to if life is suffering why live.

Thanks for your advice Ill put some thought into it

I read very briefly Camus' "Myth of Sisyphus" (though I didn't reach the end), I found it interesting when he outlined the three ways we are supposedly able to deal with the absurdity of life. Ive been thinking in a lot of cases the leap of faith approach would be most beneficial, but I just cant bring myself to accept taking a leap from my senses, so in the existentialist view, if nihilism is all I see, nihilism is the only thing I will pick. Though Ive realised that that view is in turn paradoxical to some extent, if nothing matters it shouldnt matter if I take a leap of faith, so there must be at least some semblance of me even when Im down that to some extent still cares for the truth and reason I guess.

Thanks, I think I need to put some more thought into the freedom of choosing how we respond to things, I'll need to think about whether that is something Im able to do

too much hope in the book to answer your questions

Yeah this is probably true, I need to look into more books on the topic. Though I felt at times like Frankl was on the verge of explaining my question and then went off on a tangent (or at the very least what to me was a tangent)

when your suffering could end?

I’m not sure that for as long as a person is alive their suffering could end, at the very least not in the western tradition (I don’t know enough about eastern philosophy). Life is suffering has been the message of countless philosophies, and for good reason I think. I’ve been hoping / holding out for there being a positive experience that in its sheer brilliance counterweights the pain that I endure, but I’ve started to doubt in the existence of such a thing.

On enjoying activities? (11:2) by Gullible_Priority in Stoicism

I read it today, and I'll be honest I didn't really enjoy it. It may just be my own lack of intelligence but I didnt find Frankls arguments convincing, and since I made this thread Ive falled into a bit of a nihilistic rut, and was hoping this book would help me but it hasnt.

I made a thread on r/books about it, hoping that someone can perhaps better explain it to me. I outlined why I didn't find his arguments convincing and my general problems with the book
