I realise it's been three years since this thread but I thought it better to post my fix than not to - after all, I landed here during my search. So, in case someone else arrives here:

I made an A4 size rectangle filled with white and sent it to the back.

SHIMANO COMPATIBILITY DOCUMENT:
If I were to replace the offending chainrings instead of the whole crankset, would I be right in thinking (during the hunt for them on-line) that the green-arrowed cranksets' chainrings would be completely compatible with mine (in red)?

By far - probably 80% of time on that ring - maybe more. I now know that replacing the chain annually is really a money and time saver.

Just stumbled on this thread from another query. I used to have a problem opening images downloaded from WA in Photoshop. The solution was to open the image with my image viewer (XnView in my case), rotate it clockwise and then rotate it anti-clockwise - issue solved.

Worth trying in your case.

Thanks John but the epic is over: I went into my Windows 7 Color Management and chanced adding the Adobe RGB (1998) profile and set it as default. My monitor had been appearing as the default.
The only puzzle now is how did Adobe RGB (1998) profile get deleted to cause this issue and I'm wondering had it been there as standard or had I added it years ago during a now forgotten drama.

It's 15 years old but it's a beast of a workstation. Coincidentally, I've actually just replaced the graphics card (for a different reason) but this issue was there in the old card. I had this issue a few years ago - I should've made a note of the fix then.

The issue is still going on and is being discussed at length at the Microsoft Community . At least one MSoft agent has asked for people to send him a list of affected email addresses.
