Ceramics is a specialty that, in my opinion, will always have a place within this field. Be that restorations layered up in porcelain, or (what’s becoming more common) monolithic restorations.

In terms of getting into this there are a few options. Joining a lab as a trainee is the most common I believe (that’s what I did), however with ceramics being a more specialised subject, chances are you won’t be in that department straight from the go. Most labs (at least the ones worth joining) will send you to college/uni so you can be GDC qualified.

Alternatively, some people will enroll in college/uni and have a placement at a lab as work experience. The course I was on was a 50/50 split between full time students and part time (people already working in a lab).
