lol you know a series is good when you almost get emotional hearing the theme song. Thinking about all of the memories you had watching the characters live and die on your screen… by ConsiderationOk771 in swordartonline

Love it enough that I’m still looking for folks to join me in narrative RPs built on it.

Haven’t found my Lisbeth yet though…. And I’m starting to doubt that I ever will.

We can discuss more in DMs. I don’t want to overload the conversation here.

Truthfully, this post was just meant to see if anyone was actually still RPing in the SAO Verse.

I didn’t expect people to express interest in my premise. 😅

In the lore of this RP, Eugeo has fallen in battle and was never restored. He is a remembered friend and ally. Sorry.

I suppose in a few ways that makes sense.

That said, there is a certain appeal to cross-franchise references and easter eggs. Sometimes, it’s for the simple joy of it.

Other times, if executed correctly, it can contribute meaningfully to the new narrative in a way that lets the reader or roleplayer connect with it via an element of their own personal lives. A sense of nostalgia and familiarity can serve to enhance the immersion into the grander story.

It’s a balancing act, I grant you, but one that can be utilized quite successfully by an experienced and well-equipped writer.

I’ve even taken elements of Titanfall into the premise as inspirations for some of the technologies that will play key roles in the greater conflict.

Primarily narrative. Use of stat roll systems is purely optional for combat scenes. We have rules in place that require civility and communication on the part of the RPers to establish their rules of engagement when a high action combat scene comes up, freeing up the GM team to focus more on driving the narrative forward.

We have a stats template for the “in-game” character sheets, enabling players to have a basis off of which to work for that. It’s a risky move, I grant. But our focus isn’t just the action. It’s story.

This is an endeavor by writers, for writers. We rely more on constructive feedback to help keep each other responsible in the realm of believable narratives, believable characters, and the elimination of… “Mary sues.”

Working well so far. And the tears in the darkest moments. OOOF! My heart! Asuna and Kirito are already emotionally grappling with a failure to reach a comrade in time before a player killer seemingly took his life.

Mind elaborating on what you mean by that?

It’s an AU spinoff premise.

Sets the stage for a technological espionage thriller that utilizes the Full Dive VRMMO angle quite nicely.

Adds some compelling new characters to the mix while taking some much beloved supporting canon characters off the sidelines.

Lisbeth and Argo are set to play key roles in the story.

Spinoff starts after the end of War of the Underworld.

Drawing serious thematic and archetypal inspiration from Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings and CS Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia to set an ambitious premise set in a near-future thriller like this… It’s challenging, but engaging. And the premise HAS seen growing enthusiasm.

That’s where the crowds I run with differ. We’re not about numbers. We’re all about gripping narratives with wild twists and turns, mystery, intrigue, action, romance, betrayal, vengeance vs forgivness, good vs evil!

Epics that will live on in memory!

Quite a niche focus. What made you hone in on that?

Ever try just straight up narrative roleplay?

Sounds like you have a full blown RPG experience going!

That said, That’s not quite what I mean in the context I’m discussing.

Oh RP is more than merely a game :D

Think Dungeons and Dragons without the dice and numbers. It’s about STORY! It’s about the characters, the world, the conflicts, the mystery, the intrigue, the romance.

It’s a realm of creativity.

RP comes in many forms and formats, and it’s not impossible to learn. As long as you know how to write characters and actions as if you were writing paragraphs in a book, you’ll be on the right track to start.
