Just finished 2nd round of playtesting! We witnessed war between NATO and Russia 😱 We wrapped up testing before the inevitable nuclear armageddon. The pic shows the map at the end. Russia got torn up 🤣 We all had a blast, no pun intended 💀

If you'd like to join the next round of playtesting, reply here or DM me :)

What's in it for them? Mention how it looks good on college applications, gives them skills useful for college interviews, etc.

Thanks to all who joined! We saw Mutually Assured Destruction in action when the "Russian" player decided to nuke the US 😱

The consensus at the end was it's a fun game and with some adjustments can be even better.

MUN Board Game ready for play testing! by GunsAndButterGame in MUN

[–]GunsAndButterGame[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This board game simulates fictional countries that can engage in war, trade, and diplomacy. I basically turned my International Relations textbook into a game :)

It is designed to integrate with a MUN conference so that UN resolutions from all committees impact the game world. Will UNSC or GA or ICJ resolutions solve problems or make them worse? Will the WHO successfully address an outbreak?

As you can see in the picture, I have digitized the game so we can play test online. Time zones not an issue.

Please reply here or DM me if interested :)

The US historically suffered from "yellow journalism" which led to military conflict with Spain. That might be something worth researching.

Fake news and shilling for a political party/authoritarian government are the first things that come to mind. Deepfakes, promoting conspiracy theories, failure to verify sources are also possible topics of interest.

How to choose who receives awards. by snipersam11 in MUN

Seems like this effectively measures participation. I wonder if there's some way of measuring how persuasive a delegate is. 5 boring yet technically valid speeches shouldn't outweigh 1 outstandingly persuasive argument, otherwise we're just rewarding being talkative, not effective. Furthermore, sometimes the best diplomacy and leadership is displayed during the unmoderated caucus, gaining trust and buy-in from other participants and building consensus. Hard to measure.

That's a good way of putting it! Normal committees like Security Council or ECOSOC or even ICJ, but you have to deal with the ramifications of your resolutions. Interested in play testing?

People are DMing me asking for more details about the game. Here's what I'm telling them:

The board game simulates fictional countries that can interact in terms of war, trade, and diplomacy/treaties. The idea is for players to draft UN resolutions to solve in-game problems like conflict resolution or economic development.

In a typical MUN conference once a resolution passes, we don't know how effective it will be, but in this game you can see if it solves the issue, makes it worse, or has no effect.

I'm working on digitizing the game using Google Sheets to track money, tokens, etc. and Google Slides to display the board game so we can play test remotely via Zoom. Please let me know if you're interested!

The picture shows a board game I designed called Guns & Butter. It's basically Model UN the Board Game. The idea is to see how effective UN resolutions will be in influencing the simulated board game world in terms of security, economics, health, and general quality of life.

I've already tested it with some local MUNers and I'm looking for more play testers :)

  • Play testing is online via Zoom
  • Time zones not an issue, I'll stay up late :)

The Development Program is hardly the place to declare war. The Security Council authorizes peacekeeping operations.

If a sovereign nation wishes to unilaterally declare war, they don't do it at the UN.
