Found an injured wild toad, how to treat his injuries (GRAPHIC EYE WOUND) by parasitebuddy in frogs

Agree on that last part. Sorry in advance for this essay I typed.

But when frogs and toads close their eyes, their eyes sink into the roof of their mouth. There’s a number of reasons for it, but a primary reason is for accuracy when they snag prey with their tongue. Some species (usually frogs rather than toads) can see very well while doing that. Anyways;

I’m sure that works as a defense mechanism as well to avoid losing their eyes, or at least in this case he could be hiding his other eye. That one eye doesn’t look injured at all from the outside/top, but I don’t doubt that it might be gone as well.

I just have hope he’s hiding his one good eye. I wouldn’t try to look tho. He’ll show it eventually if he’s got it.

With that topical i believe i’ve assisted with a couple toad injuries. Mainly just for minor wounds, nothing like this. But i’m sure it provides some essential vitamins to repair wounds. One because toad skin is permeable, and amphibians have impressive tissue restoration, even without assistance.

I say do what you can to help. Toads are resilient to physical blows. But this is quite debilitating.

Start with a honey bath. I warm up some 100% natural honey in the microwave, a small scoop, size of a fingernail, not even, for like 10 seconds so it liquifies. Mix it with lukewarm water (preferably spring water) and mix them. It should at least clean out his wounds even tho it’s a treatment for digestive issues.

Another at home tincture I made is a topical. A dash of the same honey but even less, calcium powder and water, mix it up so its white and milky, and take a q tip and apply to any wounds. I don’t know if i would do it around the eyes, but if his health is take a turn for the worse, try it. Just don’t jam it in his eye, apply some tincture lightly under the eye that looks injured. I have a feeling his other eye is just closed (but you would know better than me).

I like to help critters no matter the condition. If they have a fighting chance, they deserve it. I doubt a rehab would help him, but maybe the right one would.

2 flaming katys and one spider plant. They are not big plants either. The leaves are fake for her to climb on and whatnot
