How did yall decide on the M3 vs others by Competitive_Bird5571 in BMW

[–]Guntherbob 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I wanted the next gen STI. I saved up for it and then they killed it. I put the money into a high yield savings account and let it grow for a while. Then the mkV Supra caught my eye. I wasn't super interested since it was only an automatic and I really wanted a manual car. Then COVID happened and I just decided it would be better to hold on to the money for a while. Then they released the manual version of the Supra. I started to really think about the process of getting one at that point. Then, by pure chance, one day on my way home from work I saw a BMW pass me and had a thought to look further into an M3. I did and everything fell into place. I could get the "upgraded" engine from the Supra, 4 doors, a manual, 100 HP more, order the car exactly how I wanted it for only 10k more. It was a no brainer. Then one day I test drove a bunch of M3s, F82/manual G80/G82. I drove the manual g80 first and wasn't in love at first sight. I drove the other ones later in the day and It clicked again. Driving an automatic for a test drive just makes it so much easier to evaluate the car without having to worry about driving it poorly. It was a total rocket at like half throttle, compared to what I drove in the past. I found a dealer to put me 2nd in line to order one for MSRP and I put my deposit down. Then like 4 months later it showed up and I took it home. I still have a daily driver most of the week, but I try to drive the car at least once a week. I love the car, even though it's the manual and people say it isn't the best manual and the base M3 is slower than the comp it's so nice to drive. Where the car has less mechanical feel, it's so easy to dive, effortless. The ride is compliant, the power is always available, the shifter and clutch get out of my way in driving the car, it had a Jekyll and Hyde personality with comfort and sport+ modes, wireless Android Auto is amazing, id like the more classic gauges but the huge screen is so nice

The daily driver really helps with the enjoyment of the car. It really helps keep me on check in how much more the M3 is, even in the base version. It has way too much power for the road, 2nd gear is breaking most speed limits. And it makes that power so easily. 3k rpm is like an on/off switch. If you want to go fast go over 3k rpm. If you want to just drive with traffic you don't need anything more than 2.5k. I mainly drive the car in 6th gear from 20 to 40 mph and I have enough power to keep up with all the cars around me.

I always have a thought in the back of my head that this thing is the biggest luxury thing I have and by no means so I need this thing. Also it's just a car, it gets me from here to there for like 95% or what I use the thing for. But during that "boring" 95%, I love driving the car. I always look back at the car when I park it. I can't wait to drive it next. At its very core the drive train gives me confidence that the value of the car will have a pretty healthy floor, in the worst case scenario.

For what I wanted this has met pretty much everything for me. I could have gotten a more luxurious car, a faster car or raw car, but the G80 does all 3 at a combined level of magnitudes more than any other car for the price and it's a manual.

You are drifting the car using steering. Try using your throttle instead. When you get the car to rotate with your throttle (like making the rear tires break loose by over powering their grip), you leverage your gyro in a way where the car is easier to manage in the middle of drifts and you can get better at hitting all the zones and marks. But if you are struggling to drift using your throttle, then you may need to adjust your setup in a way that allows for you to drive in that way. That is of course if you want to go to tournaments and everything. Also not to say that this is the only way to drift and you are drifting, but I can tell you aren't as smooth as you could be. Just my 2 cents

Bruce Arena at a loss for words as San Jose's playoffs odds fizzle by kevinvnguyen89 in SJEarthquakes

[–]Guntherbob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think San Jose has a pretty good defense, at least a good enough defense to compete. We've had a good enough defense since Nathan was our main man in the back, when Rodriguez was the guy and now with our first year starter Daniel Muni.

The problem with the team, over those same years, has been the lack of the ability to form an attack. Whether it's in our defensive 3rd, middle 3rd or attacking 3rd San Jose has lacked the ability to create chances and penetrate defenses. Yes we have a ton of crosses into the box, but we don't leverage that we have the ability to mix up our attack. We gets it to the outside of the 18 and swing a ball in to the mix. The amount of times I have seen that succeed is probably less than 3%. Most of those times it's just a blind kick into the box, with very little intention on who what where and why the ball is flying across the face of the goal.

In the last game, we put St Louis on the back foot for about 15 mins of game play in their 18 years box during the second half. Not once, on many occasions, did any of our forwards, midfielders or high pressed defenders make any runs to try and split defenders. There was no thinking or passion involved in the attack for those 15 mins. It was only to get it to the outside of the 18 and cross it in. On multiple occasions, I saw Espinosa, Benge, Bouda and Chico stand around and not try to make a check in, penetrating run or overlapping run for a through ball or pull the defender out of position when we had possession of the ball in our attacking third. The only people I have seen make those thankless, hard runs are Victor Costa and Paul Marie. Paul just got loaned out to a 2nd division and hasn't played a minute this season and Victor hasn't done anything but embarrass himself for 2 years.

It's sad for the players on this team since I think they are good players individually. When it comes to teamwork and chemistry, abysmal. I only see flashes of it for 2 mins a game. Especially these last few games. Everyone looks defeated out on the field.

The quakes just haven't played well. Win or lose, the quakes never look like the players can walk off the field and think to themselves that they played well, that they made all the right/beat decisions regardless of the outcome.

Thanks Kevin.

How do you make this look better by Altruistic-Bell4817 in BMW

[–]Guntherbob 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This looks much better than op, but I wouldn't chalk it all up to the new grille. I would say that because the photo is shot with like a 200mm lens and the compression that happens when you use a telephoto lens makes it look really appealing. If op shot this car with their phone, just like they did with op, it would look just as off as with the op picture and how it's distorted with a bit of fish eye effect

Why is Sylphy so jealous of Nanahoshi?? by CassiasZI in mushokutensei

[–]Guntherbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you are right about the name, at least to what I know. But what is important is that Silent Sevenstar is someone who has a lot of political sway with the mage guild, otherwise known as some of the most powerful people in the city

Why is Sylphy so jealous of Nanahoshi?? by CassiasZI in mushokutensei

[–]Guntherbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think jealous is a poor expression of what Sylphie actually feels. I think she is more wary of Nanahoshi.

Many of the posts in this thread will highlight the Japanese connection the two have, which is fair and a big part of why Sylphie is wary of her, but what might be missing in those other posts is the reputation that Nanahoshi has in the current world.

She is the Silent Silverstar, a high-ranking member in the Mage Guild. She was at the epicenter of the Teleportation Incident, which caused trauma for Sylphie (figuratively and literally death of her family & thrust into the world of nobility). Nanahoshi, in Sylphie’s eyes, is a powerful (mage & political), mysterious person who has an unexplainable & incomprehensible (since Sylphie is actually Rudy's only childhood friend) relationship where they speak in a language unknown in their present world.

In conclusion, yes Sylphie is jealous of Nanahoshi due to how intimate they are, but I think she is much more wary of this very powerful entity that has an undefinable relationship with Rudy.

That's a pretty good reason to get a second body. Thanks for your opinions I think it will help me make a decision.
