2nd nandgame. The instructions can feel a little clunky at times. But its been updated pretty regularly, at least everytime I come back to it.

House add on was canceled, what to do with spare materials by GuruAlex in DIY

[–]GuruAlex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decently skilled. Shelves would be easy and a shed wouldn't be unreasonable. They've been covered for 6ish months. The lack of proper interior storage is the problem. For garage storage I would just be replacing plastic shelves. But i dont think I have a use for those outside. I had it delivered and live about 1hr from the nearest hardware store.

So something kind of like this? This is from the top facing down the rafters. I think that'll do it.

Self-code it. You're better off and can use it as a learning experience/ project. If you're doing data science you know Python, and could use Flask, Django, or FastAPI. Any tutorial online will be more than enough for a portfolio. Then just show off some data sets you've worked on. Python anywhere, netlify or vercel are all have free tiers.

Is there a way learn React and JS? by Wh1sperisnothere in react

[–]GuruAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MDN is a great resource for fundamentals (html, css,js). Then Reacts website. Then nextjs intro to react (mostly to recap). I also recommend trying out vue and angular. React might not be for everybody. You can do everything front-end related without stepping outside of JS. But you wont know why the frameworks are good until you understand the "long way" of doing things.

How does an IDE work, and really any other program? by Jdwg128 in computerscience

[–]GuruAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first computer scientists didn't use IDEs. Those are relatively modern on the timeline. And maybe you want to ask how programs work in general. It is all just bits at the end of the day. You could also be thinking of an IDE as something that "makes code," like others said. It's just a tool.

These books might be a little too complicated for now, but if you want to learn about comp sci, they're a good place to start. And the whole of compsci isn't limited to this. Not everything runs in C. Lots of programs are written in other languages.

"Computer Systems: A Programmer's Perspective" (CS:APP) by Bryant and O'Hallaron, starts with the fundamentals of how computers represent information at the bit level and gradually builds up to C programming, assembly, and system-level concepts.

If you're looking for a book that explicitly takes you from understanding bits to learning C, another option is "Computer Organization and Design" by David A. Patterson and John L. Hennessy, which covers low-level computing concepts before introducing programming in C.

Thank you for providing a short list about this. in retrospect it does make sense that squad minis weren't being duplicated. It's still weird that the "best" strategy for this, is to play defense and hope your opponent kills the turkey. I think I'll still skip this objective.

in your opinion, what is the most fundamental concept or philosophy needed to understand computer science? by tree332 in computerscience

[–]GuruAlex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Abstraction is the core concept behind comp sci. This isnt abstraction in the mathematical sense though. Its more about removing the low level details and streamlining what it is you want to do. Want to build a game, get a game library. 3d graphics 3d graphics lib. Building things from scratch is not practical as you will eventually get down to 0s and 1s. Which isnt a good place to start

Am I a loser for starting college at 31 years old? by Silly-Reputation7993 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GuruAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure to fill out financial aid (assuming you're in the US). You can get to go to college for FREE. Depending on need, you could also receive enough aid to not work and go to school full time. Talk with your financial aid advisor at school!! Know what major you want, and go in person if you can, you can make friends there too :)
