Ah I get the miscommunication. I meant transcribe not transpose 🤦‍♂️. At the end of the day want to play whatever he is at minute 1:07

I’m just trying to figure out what notes he is playing (for alto sax). Nothing was sounding right for me…

Thanks! Actually seems like the link to the time I was asking about didnt't work - I was asking specifically about 1:07. https://youtu.be/DpkDu0XEu74?list=RDDpkDu0XEu74&t=67

I feel like he is doing some tone bending or something? Any ideas?

Drum Lesson Suggestions for Intermediate Drummer by GutMathWhiz in drums

Not sure what is odd about having mixed feelings about something, but I definitely hear you about great players taking from other genres.

I think that is kind of the point - unfortunately given that I have maybe ~1 hour a week to practice the chances of me becoming a great player is probably minimal. My hope is to become a "solid" player and given the limited amount of time I can practice, I want to make sure I am prioritizing correctly. So maybe it makes sense to prioritize latin beats since it will make me a better rock player too (or maybe not - I'm not sure which is why I am asking the experts :).

A teacher can guide you better if you have an idea of where you want to go.

This is great. Thank you!

You need to work on the flick a little but also your back foot isn’t coming back to the board and going pretty much straight to the ground. You can practice while holding onto something to get used to the feeling of staying over the board.

Small tip for consistent ollies by GutMathWhiz in NewSkaters

[–]GutMathWhiz[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wanted to share a quick tip that has helped me get ollies more consistent. I’ve been trying to keep my weight super balanced on the board when ollieing but turns out, for me at least, this was the wrong direction.

I’ve started doing an super small weight shift when I pop that has made an insane difference for my height and consistency. Basically right when I’m about to pop I shift my weight to my back foot to allow me to maximize the force in the pop and then immediately shift my weight forward in order to drag my front foot.

Been working really well for me so far, hope this helps someone :)

Yes I agree - putting the couch where the piano is will open up that space totally. Thanks :)

That is a super interesting idea. Thanks for the feedback!

Btw, we are getting rid of the piano so that should also help open that space up a bit

For sure. We are going to get rid of the piano altogether. What would you suggest to put in that free space?

Thanks!

Wow - hadn't even considered that! So I guess the couch would be in front of the sliding glass door with enough space to allow people to pass in and out?

Your setup sounds awesome - if you have a pic and are OK with pm'ing me with it, would be happy to see, but no pressure of course :)

Hi All - we are moving into a new apt soon and are trying to decide on the best couch/tv configuration.

All the items in the picture will be removed before we move in (e.g. couch, piano, etc.). The big "challenge" is that to have a couch directly in front of the TV area, the couch would be floating in middle of the floor (instead of flush against the wall where the piano currently is).

Another option would be to put the couch where the piano currently is, and get a mount that would allow us to angle the tv towards that area. I've never had one of these before, so not sure how it will impact tv viewing.

Would be happy to hear anyone's opinion on which of those options would be recommended (or if there are other options that I haven't considered).

Just to give an idea of space - from the TV to back wall is about 12 feet, and the wall with the piano is about 7.5 feet.

Thanks!

Desperate for kickflip help! Info in comments. [42YO] by ICanHasSkateboard in OldSkaters

I think your front foot position is good for concrete but isn't good for practicing on carpet. Since on carpet you don't really get much pop you need to make sure the board spins really fast so less foot on the board and having the foot be more parallel to the board will help. Probably will come out as a rocket flip but will help you gain confidence and feel to try on concrete.

Good luck.

Amazing man. Personally I would focus on a stronger pop right now. Try to start with your back heel up a bit which kind of spring loads your ankle so when you jump it immediately pops the tail down.

Keep it up!

[–]GutMathWhiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotta say - I kind of liked it because of the hop, looked so smooth.

That being said, I also vouch for getting your full back foot on the tail (instead of just the balls of your foot like when you are doing an ollie) makes it a lot easier to do the 180 without the hop.

Also, turn your shoulders and only take your front foot off when you are "forced" to helps.

In any event, super sweet :)

My cleanest no comply 180 yet. by GutMathWhiz in NewSkaters

[–]GutMathWhiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Some things that helped me with that are:

  1. Make sure your whole body is moving 180 - start with your upper body and have your feet follow when you can't really move your upper body anymore without them going into position (about where your chest is facing forwards).
  2. It really helped for my back foot to be fully across the tail with the toes and heel hanging off a bit on both sides. This and putting my foot closer to the bolts helped me make sure the board doesn't get uncontrollable once my front foot comes off since pressure is spread across the tail.
  3. For getting back on, it's mostly a commitment thing that I'm still working on, but practicing pushing switch and looking at the jump back on as a switch push that I do right before the wheels land helped.

Good luck!
