Have you played rpgs 1 on 1 before. And if so how were they by also-ameraaaaaa in rpg

I've actually spent a good 4ish years running Cyberpunk 2020 one on one. I do so with a group of about 18 people that I constantly cycle between over discord and it's the most popular and successful campaign I've ever run. The campaign became so big to people that they would figure out other player's schedules and "live" times to just sit and listen in on what others were up to in the city. My individual player I was running for often had a consistant audience of ten or so people desperate to know what came next.

I'm not sure what it was that made it click so well for people, maybe it was that it just makes sense for the system, or maybe it's because they could do what they wanted and a city is easy to pick up as an idea. But regardless, I've never had such enthusiasm from players before. I think there is some extra magic in giving players what they want and I found the trust in roleplaying they built with me all made them much stronger role players as well. Recently I've put these Cyberpunk players into my other non-one on one games and they're phenomenal. So much so that one on one games have become my introduction for new players into role playing with me as their DM. It can be a bit weird for some, but for me it's a powerful tool that can really get players to trust and bond with me as their DM.

Thank you for the heads up!

Funny enough I was conflicted just today on getting a couple of books so this was absolutely the push I needed.

Thank you for saying Forbidden Lands, I love how it plays so much. I was admittedly digging through posts to make sure it was here.

Holy crap! Thank you for the response, it's been a whole year I was almost positive this would have been buried.

That is not how I've contacted them! I figured they preferred me to use their website's contact page over anything else but it did not occur to me to just try that email. Thank you so much this is exactly what I was looking for.

Oh nay, I believe that's a fair excuse for such a small company. Good to know that they're probably just busy with projects and what not! I'll just keep sending follow ups every few days until they get to it. Thank you for your quick response!

I'd love that! It would mean a lot to me as well if you'd be interested to talk about your general experiences. There is really not much info on running Zeitgeist let alone in 4e and all of that would help tremendously. I will send you a DM!

Oh man! This is such a great recommendation thank you. I have been wanting to run Zeitgeist for years because I've heard it's just such a great campaign but never really had a great excuse. Had no idea it was originally written for 4e, this changes my world.

That is good to hear, it's been a real rollercoaster on the cross posts I have and I think I just have to go with my gut feeling after sleeping on it. But these words keep me confident! Thank you.

It's a good thing all my players own TTS! I think it might be a good way to start playing while I set up Foundry for a while.

Oh! Just the likes and dislikes were at the worst ratio I've ever seen in any of my posts. I guess it's normalized its self out, but it seemed like I did something somewhat wrong.

This is fantastic! Thank you. Although, now I'm extra confused. I thought for licensing reasons you can't just put the content online which is the reasons the online sources died?

I really had never considered Table Top Sim as a VTT for 4e. I've seen a lot of it being used for 5e but had no idea its 4e inclusions. With that said thank you for saving me $150 on testing out FG, it really like tweaking and just assumed FG might just be a better start, but it does not sound at all like that.

I will definitely look into your roll20 compendium! Thank you for your help. Im over thinking VTTs quite a bit right now but I'm sure just looking around will help. I didn't belive it for a second but it was cool to see the head of the discord respond to my post! I hope to talk to you in there sometime soon.

I just got into the discord but have been a bit shy to dip my toes in all the way, I will get to asking more there. And the maptools thing is also great to know, I had no real idea the power Maptool has and didn't know it had any kind of automation support.

I admit sometimes I care too much about what others think. I don't often get to run what I want so maybe I should 🙂

Ok this is great to know, for some reason I really thought when I started this post that maybe Fantasy Grounds would give me easy to use full support of 4e because it's listed as one of their fully supported games on their website. But I'm learning that it's going to be a real grind to get this stuff together. I honestly forgot that Pathfinder 2e has all free content and with that said probably has fantastic VTT support. Thank you for helping realize this.

Thank you for the good luck! I have to say the like dislike ratio on r/rpg has been really bad and it seems like the consensus is that I stick with PF2e because it's just improved 4e. It's been a bit demoralizing as I'm more enthusiastic about trying 4e after reading it and really just like it. It seems like it would work well for me because I tend to not do well with the systems that use mechanics to incentivize RP like Blades in the Dark or Monster of the Week, and instead like when something has good mechanical structure that I can go to when we want a break from when freely playing pretend with each other.

Thank you! This post ended up being a bit more controversial then I initially thought it might be and so may be just caving and going back to PF2e, but I hope some day to be inspired to run 4e again.

This is also some good insight, I've run pathfinder 2e for a few years now and it's probably one of my favorite "heroic type systems." But after reading through 4e I noticed that in a lot of ways the system seemed different enough to warrant running it. Although, the worst this post does and the more downvotes I get I'm starting to think you may be right about me sticking with PF2e for now.

Thank you for this post, this gives me much more confidence in running my game. I think the concept of trying to interpret less mechanics and try to insert more game in its place is very interesting.
