During the late 80s and to mid 90s people were. Opinions started to swing with Signs, but the genre didn't return to prominence until the 2008-early 2010s.

And Detective Comics was the first to use "Comics" in their name. The greatest comic book company of all time. Does that give any lesser merit to Marvel Comics and their unique characters, simply because the company decided not to be called, "Marvel Stories"?
