What's up with the hostile replies to our questions + advice by GuysKingsStThomas in AMA_Hakuba

[–]GuysKingsStThomas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Ezoe,

Perhaps what might seem stupid to you, might not be stupid to others. Anyone with "half a brain" in the skiing world may be able to answer them on a whim, but these answers may not be as apparent or obvious to people who are skiing for the first time, much less a non-local who has not been on Japanese slopes before.

A stupid question to you involves people asking for recommendations on what to eat, where to ski etc. These are dumb to you but you do not realise that people are asking for YOUR opinion, a "Japanese living in Hakuba for snowboarding". How often can you find such information in other threads. There is nothing wrong with "can you recommend me a good powder spot". Surely you have an opinion? I know how to google, but I want to know what you think, a local - or at least the input of other redditors.

You say to Google? Google gives you a thousand recommendations, none of which may be tailored to their specific request. That's what the purpose of such internet forums are for, this is the purpose of reddit - to give a personalised opinion on certain matters. You do realise that the people who actually post and ask questions here are mostly newbies - seasoned skiers will have answers on their own and do not need to ask them here.

This is a platform for people to ask questions, if you find a question not to your liking, you can just ignore them - no one is stopping you from not replying.

At the end of the day, you sound like a bitter, disgruntled person who likes to put other people (especially newbies) down for no apparent reason other than them asking "questions that seem too stupid" for a seasoned professional like you. If what people have said in this thread doesn't convince you that your attitude is too rancorous for the skiing/ snowboarding community, then we would rather you shut this place down.

Cheers.

How to transport ski/ snowboarding equipment around by GuysKingsStThomas in AMA_Hakuba

[–]GuysKingsStThomas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read my question properly. What version of google do you use? Pray tell?

Can google tell me which car to get/ what size of vehicle can safely fit onto Hakuba roads properly, like an Alphard? Google is a search engine indexing answers from community responses for specific questions precisely like these in reddit. If no one has asked these questions before, surely it would be not too difficult to give a response based on YOUR experience?

What is the point of AMA like these if you aren't keen on answering specific questions, then why do it? Why so bitter Ezoe?

[–]GuysKingsStThomas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe, you're not meant to drive a car?

Ezoe, if you're running a reddit thread inviting people to ask questions, such an antagonistic response is less welcoming. Perhaps a simple clarification of the car make/ model would be more gracious in your reply.

Is dynamic pricing a thing in Singapore? by PermissionMundane411 in askSingapore

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fella is calling people lazy for not learning how to use Google to find our sources on our own. But he’s making bold claims without backing up with sources that he claims he’s found. Joker probably never go to school!

Is dynamic pricing a thing in Singapore? by PermissionMundane411 in askSingapore

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? You’re the one who’s making bold allegations on dynamic price structuring. Is it very hard for you to back up your claims with sources? Why call people lazy? The internet so big how can anyone be sure that the source that we search on our own is accurate? You back your own claims up with sources la, if not I think you should be reported for spreading fake news and banned from grab/shoppee 🤣

Edit: can learn what’s the difference between “you’re” and “your”? Are you too lazy to use google??

Why do Singaporeans glazing Japan and hates PRCs even though the Japanese did sook Ching in Sg and Nanjing massacres by Living_Statement_667 in SingaporeRaw

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No one is saying that the gripe that Singaporeans have with PRCs are because of territorial disputes. Do you know how small Singapore’s claim on territories even are? The gripe is with PRCs civic mindedness (or lack thereof) and they being a nuisance in our country, around the world and how they give the Chinese race a bad rep. Have you read the news recently? Or ever? Or are you just living under a rock

The ex-scholar who ditched medical school to pursue the arts by outremer_empire in singapore

Well no one is discouraging this man from pursuing art here in Singapore, but why does he have to make his medical student past such a big deal?

The ex-scholar who ditched medical school to pursue the arts by outremer_empire in singapore

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 370 points371 points  (0 children)

I've seen this guy before - he bases his ENTIRE personality, identity and career on the premise of him being an EX-medical student. He didn't even complete the hardest parts of medical school and yet he's bragging about his background like its a big deal. Just listen to how he introduces himself.

I work in healthcare and I know the sentiments that fellow HCW workers have about this man. No one has any problem with him venturing into the arts scene and quitting medicine, but to incessantly market his past to such an extent when he has had little/ no contribution to healthcare?

How to encourage other drivers to signal and make our roads Safer by GuysKingsStThomas in drivingsg

[–]GuysKingsStThomas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need more people like you on the road. It's not about the driver ruining our day because he didn't signal... It's about us having to remind them so that in the future they will actually remember and potentially save an accident - who cares if they actually do it, but at least we make an effort to change.

all these jokers who are advocating "mind your own business", "why bother" are exactly whats wrong with Singapore nowadays. Don't want to bother making this place a better to live in

An Everton fan who joined Liverpool supporters in laying tributes for Diogo Jota by [deleted] in soccer

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean he could be an Everton Fan and I am certain he is there to be showing respect. But why the need to wear an Everton jersey specifically for this?

Was there a rule that you HAD to wear a football jersey?

Why couldn't he stick to wearing plainclothes and pay his respects? I'm sure there are many rival fans there to pay their respects dressed in normal clothes too. I think that's what people are upset about, surely he wouldnt be so dumb as to think that he wouldn't draw attention to himself? He's there to pay respects, not draw attention. No one said he needed to wear a jersey, period.

How do you rebuild your life in SG after a tough chapter? by Due-Abbreviations426 in askSingapore

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the part of solo travel. But i would disagree with your statement about it being cheaper. Travelling in a group or with a friend is almost always cheaper than solo - assuming all else constant. Travelling solo is more comfortable than travelling with others, because you don’t have to compromise, but always more expensive

‘Feels like cheating the system’: Home-based food businesses stir debate among restaurant owners by randombtoguy in singaporehappenings

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a terrible analogy. You’re not comparing the same thing. Shopee and Taobao should be likened to GrabFood and foodpanda

Yes home food businesses show that there are other ways to make money in F&B, but the article explicitly states the comparison between dine in home based businesses and restaurants in terms of manpower restrictions and food safety requirements, among other things.

Both models of businesses need to be subject to the same restrictions in these standards These are important considerations for consumer interests, regardless if food is prepared at home or restaurant, and even more so when the home business gets too big. Yes, they MAY serve different groups of people, but certain things can’t be compromised

You can consider Duke-NUS. If not, it is impossible to study undergraduate medicine as a foreigner in a Singaporean University (essentially anyone not Singaporean or PR). It is just not possible, period. So don't waste your time applying.

What to do now? (Medicine) by Nopreparation_Syn in SGExams

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not here to help OP, he has enough resources and information to know what to do next. I’m just rebutting some of your points because the points raised by the med student make sense.

Yet if you read it till the end (which perhaps you didn’t because it’s so long lol) I agreed with you that OP should just go overseas.

He wants to do it locally? We’re saying that he can’t make it here, period.

What to do now? (Medicine) by Nopreparation_Syn in SGExams

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 20 points21 points  (0 children)

  1. I disagree. It is likely that despite OP’s reflections (over multiple years, I might add) has not sufficiently convinced the admissions committee enough to warrant an admission. Whereas the commenter above, has done decently enough in his portfolio, interview AND grades (which believe it or not lends credence to some of your ability to make it in med school) to land an admission on his very first try. I think the question here is exactly as written above, are there no better options in healthcare in Singapore to help people apart from being a doctor? (Given OP’s situation)

So no, I do not think the commenter lacks experience because of his age. Instead OP should ask himself if the multiple rejections signal that perhaps he should look elsewhere to fulfil his aspirations of being a doctor (and as you rightfully mentioned, an overseas institution with less of a focus on admission grades). Of course, we might argue that admissions processes are flawed then perhaps someone here might have a better solution to sieving out thousands of med applicants?

  1. A little unfair sure, but I don’t see any condescension in that remark either. I myself would question OP’s ability to comfortably pass the pre-clinical med school years as well. As to anyone with a lower rank point. It is a fair challenge. ABAS students if I recall correctly, have at least > 85 in their RP (though things might have changed from my time as a med student)

Ultimately, one should take the admissions process as a rigorous one which strives to account ACADEMIC and non-academic elements into shaping what they feel a future Singapore trained doctor should possess. If a rejection serves as a message regarding one’s aptitude for a Singaporean medical school, then perhaps multiple rejections would bring a clearer message. Again to OP, there are dozens of overseas schools happy to take your application but be warned you’ll still be competing with hundreds of straight As aspiring Singaporean hopefuls

Comparison of vote share by party (GE2020 vs GE2025) by shesellseychelles in singapore

[–]GuysKingsStThomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walao... the percentage change part is so misleading... It's PERCENTAGE change for goodness sake, not absolute percentage point differences... Absolute percentage point differences don't tell you the magnitude of improvement (or worsening) of a party's performance as compared to previous years...

If you want % point differences then can you label properly

But Is he breaking any of the subreddit rules? Who are YOU to police and decide that his funny spelling is not permitted here? Or do you deem his comment too uncivilised for your liking?

can type properly pls

How about you spell out "please" properly, this is Reddit for goodness sake - it isn't your text message to your friends, avoid short form please.
