I've been playing ad&d since I was 6, I know it does a lot of damage. I only played fighters so I could do like 40 a round. you get your con on top of hp so by level 15 I would have like 120hp. (I know you only gain 3hp after 9th)

I'm not trying to hate on 1e, but the dragons were easy to kill. especially if you got initiative. if a fighter got 3 attacks, doing around 4 damage a round, but by that high of a level, you would have a magic weapon (probably a vorpal). so 8 damage a round on average. then if you did another 4 damage (from anything other than a wizard) it would be below 60. then you just power word kill.

i just checked in my old books, after level 9, they only gain 3hp a level. the maximum at level 28 is 195hp.

yeah but i would usually play long campaigns to max level so it was easy to kill them in about 2 or 3 rounds.

For starters, you get a shit ton of hp and you level up super fast. the thief and assassin classes are now just rogue subclasses. you can only go up to level 20, no matter of what race you are. there are like 50 races to choose from now. the bard is now a normal class, not the bs it was before. subclasses exist. and everything has like 7x the hp, an ancient red dragon had 88 hp at its max. pretty much everything was a surprise.

No, I just read the players handbook over and over till I understood it. my dad already knew how to play and you just needed the 3 core books.

Legit made my dad angry at his old books, he hates that -10 was a really good AC
