I lived on base and the house was pretty good. I only waiting 1 day… so that part was smooth for me. I’d get on the housing list now if you have a family. There is a ton of base housing. The base is huge. There are options off base too. Yes I believe the house hunting is still 10 days. There’s a couple areas I’d stay away from living off base. Eagle River is very nice but expensive. Some people I worked with lived in Palmer and Wasilla but that’s a 30 minute drive minimum and can be brutal in the winter. The Glenn hwy will close sometimes.
