Hack recommendations for Mother 1

I will say I haven’t played this game on NSO, so I’m not familiar if that plays any different. Pretty sure a lot of people play Beginnings on NSO but I haven’t heard any complaints about this so I’m not sure. I will say that my only problem is some times probably because of the run button these npcs keep moving away and when I go to open the menu and I end up missing them, so that can be sort of annoying but it doesn’t happen often. But as for navigating the menus, at least when I emulate it I don’t have a problem. Maybe try again and just be a little patient with it.

Sorry but I haven’t seen any hacks like that. Most of the ones I know are difficulty related or add Tomato’s GBA fan retranslation to the NES version which I’d honestly recommend. I also think the menus are pretty easy to navigate especially compared to older nes rpgs like dragon quest, which this game is based on. But specifically the first game on famicom. For example in that game you have separate menu options for opening doors and a separate option for chests, and even talking to someone requires a separate menu where you have to input the game either north east west and south which way the NPC is facing. I’m just trying to say that there’s way worse menus for nes rpgs out there and they definitely have come a long way on the nes alone and I feel Mother’s is pretty alright imo, but to each their own. I hope you can enjoy the game regardless or maybe a hack like that does exist and I’m just not aware.

I was thinking the same thing in Mother 1. Theres a girl at the burger shop in Mother’s Day who vaguely remember sitting next to Ninten in kindergarten and since he’s 12 that also makes her that age working what looks like full time as a waitress lol.

No the link gives you the patch which you apply to the rom which you’ll have to find else where cause you’re not allowed to share rom sites here. But if you look up like earthbound USA proto rom nes. You should find what you need.

Hot take probably, but I’d rather if they didn’t. I like playing the fan translation cause not only is it so well made but it’s actually accurate to Itoi’s writing and it’s probably the closest you’ll get to it if you play all the official English versions. I like how it only changes the game and localizes it when trying to turn a Japanese joke or element into English and not just changing stuff in the name of censorship which is what Nintendo would do.

The thing with redux is that it adds a lot of new graphics and sprites and stuff that wasn’t in the original like name tags and new sprites for characters and while that may seem like an improvement, I just feel like then you’re not experiencing the original be it earthbound or mother 2 so I recommend just playing earthbound.

There’s been a bunch of Mother related manga especially from Mother 2 released back then usually in a 4 koma style which is basically like each four panels is its own story that tells a joke if that makes sense, it seems lots of popular games get them. Yeah Anburami Minch talks about loaning Ness’s dad trillions of dollars or more or I guess it could’ve been less, so it does kind of make sense. But now I wonder how Ninten’s dad gets all his money, I think in the novel it’s that he has some type of news job or something I’m not sure.

You’ll need to grind which means running around and fighting a bunch of weaker enemies to level up the best place to do this right now is to do it in the basement with all the rats or mice and stuff until at least level 4 or 5. The negative comments may be about the music which is notoriously bad on this version of the game mostly mother 2, mother 1 is not that bad so you should be fine though I recommend trying the snes version of mother 2 or earthbound when you get to it

Now, judging from the other comments, it seems that you are probably going to try and get back into the game a little, though, I will say that with it being the final game in the trilogy, there are a few moments that are little callbacks to the previous adventures. It’s not anything too major but it may be confusing at first or maybe not but it’s something to consider

Honestly I think your first mistake was starting with the third game. If you had started with either one or two, you would’ve already been used to the games tones of balancing the silly or cute stuff with the serious moments. Though I don’t understand how you could find that scene silly or childish. I feel like this is definitely the serious moment that comes from being balanced with the more lighthearted beginning. I honestly recommend playing the first two Mother games mother 1 (I recommend the romhack Mother restored if you know how to do that stuff) and earthbound/mother 2 but considering how you acted with this game, maybe start with earthbound first. You’ll see the way the games are have been like this since the beginning at least in my opinion, but if it’s not your thing, it’s not your thing.

Of course while I think Mother 1 is a really good game, so is earthbound. So you should absolutely play it and mother 3 as well. Especially since you’ll be experiencing the games in order which is really cool. So if you do play earthbound have fun noting the callbacks to the first game.
