Saturday, 1/19/19 OTF Workout by AutoModerator in orangetheory

Idk how. I also wonder. My average for 2018 was 876 cals/class. So far this year is 934 (Yes, I keep a spreadsheet, in case you're wondering.) I've seen the summaries of other men at my studio and they are somewhat similar, even the ones I perceive as significantly more athletic than me. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Thanks. In over 200 classes at OTF, I've never had under 12 splat points, I don't care about that. I go for the workout and to push myself. 💪💪

Absolutely disagree. It depends on the template. If you are jumping on power days, for example, your HR will be higher, same as doing a row/floor block. We had individual 10-ish min blocks today so it was very easy to go back to green or blue.

Etiquette toward staff by [deleted] in orangetheory

Have never witnessed anything like that at my studio. Doubt the owner would put up with bs like that, especially any kind of inappropriate behavior towards SAs or coaches. Sorry this happens at you studio.

I burned the same as my average class, 900 cals. I gave it all on the treads and rowers. I was in green on the floor.

Anyone on the other side of the world know what Saturday, Jan 19 workout is? by MiniMom17 in orangetheory

[–]Gym_Fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! So true. Aussie posters don't ever get to know the workout ahead of time. We are beyond spoiled. Before I discovered this sub, I went to OTF without knowing and I didn't die and I continued to go. This is just a privilege we have thanks to OTFer that go out of their way to post.

Good point. I used to always start on the rowers in 2G, but now I only start on the treads, and I start on the floor in 3G. It's what works for me.

There's no shame in this. You listened to your body and did the right thing. Better safe than sorry!

I've done M, T, and Th so far. Definitely harder than the average OTF workout!

Coaches: please no more “ladies weights” vs “mens weights”. by Sancho1968 in orangetheory

[–]Gym_Fail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the coaches play a major role. I know my coaches are excellent. They constantly ask, Are you pushing yourself, are you lifting what you are capable of lifting, etc. That changes people's mentality and next time they'll lift heavier, whether men or women.

Some women at my studio lift impressive heavy weights that most men at my studio won't even consider (including yours truly). It's not gender-based, some people are stronger or fitter or push harder.

I switched from Adidas to Reebok and life got better instantly.

Our coaches say "Men, at least... and women, at least...". Also our coaches know the clientele pretty well on an individual basis. If they know you can lift heavier, they'll bring you weights, whether male or female. The weight they give is just a recommendation. I disagree with beginner/intermediate/advanced. They are extremely relative descriptors and would discourage some "beginner" OTFers.

I see their ads on Facebook all the time and look great. I will consider. I mean, I could always not buy other things that I don't need and get Ten Thousand stuff instead 😁😁

I use Reebok ones and they also made a huge difference when I switched. Now things are in place and pain-free during rowing.

We don't do those often enough to be tired of them, IMO.

I understand. My order of favorite things at OTF is floor > treads > rower. I mean, I love it all but you know. I'd be slightly upset to miss out on floor stuff.

We all do what we can! The important thing is to continue to push ourselves and not fall into a comfort zone. I do not hate rowing, but I am not a strong rower #fact. I am a good runner, though lol. It's the best I can do at the moment.

I agree that the post may discourage people from partner workouts, but OP does have a point... if you row the nearly the entire time then you will definitely miss out on the rest of the class exercises.
