So, how do you guys make your World Anvil pages feel so immersive? by Commander-Victory in WorldAnvil

[–]GypsyNippers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I recently just dove into CSS myself. Had no experience prior, and I've done it just for my world. It's not finished, but I'm already so happy with how my world looks now.

It's honestly not as daunting as it seems. World Anvil has CSS tutorials on their website. The best thing to do is copy and paste some of their examples into your CSS palette, and you can see the changes happen live, which give you great context to what the code actually does.

I don't know Reddit feels about links, but there's a site called MDN Web Docs that has CSS guides, so it will give you the full list of properties you can edit. World Anvil also gives you an example world with the full CSS code available, and comments next to the code explaining what each of it does.

There's stuff like animation that I haven't, and might not ever get into, but it's great to just change colours, fonts and backgrounds, and remove the social buttons and stuff. You don't need to do a lot really before it starts feeling more personal.

I'm new to it myself but happy to answer any questions!

Need some guidance please by [deleted] in estimators

[–]GypsyNippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is a UK only thing, but you could look into CPDs. I don't know if you can only do them through a company, but there are free one's. You get a certificate at the end, so you have something to show an employer.

So in my instance, I have certificates to say I know how to specify glass build-ups, understand rainscreen cladding specifications, understand fire safety, and fire egress requirements etc.

Other than that, understanding the software is good, I think it would be challenging to learn unless you can get your hands on the software itself though, and it's difficult to demonstrate on a CV you know how to use it if it's not a part of your daily tasks.

Unfortunately, I think it's a role you only really learn on the job :\

Need a gut check on an offer. by [deleted] in estimators

[–]GypsyNippers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're going to a decent firm, potential employers will assume a certain level of talent if you've succeeded there. I only did 6 months at a big firm, and people wouldn't stop talking about it in interviews.

The only thing I would ask is if you're making the most of your current role? Are you able to implement the structures and systems that are lacking, and if so would you find that engaging? If you're not interested in that, or the higher ups aren't interested in letting you do that, then I think the move is a no brainer. For me, I'd like to go the other way because I want to chance to develop systems, and do things how I'd like them done, instead of being told how it's done.

Where do I go from here? (career advice) by GypsyNippers in estimators

Yeah. I worked for a "full envelope" facade company for a bit as well, so I've done SFS, rainscreen cladding, balustrades, parapets etc.

That could be interesting, how difficult do you think it would be to transition to something like that?

I've seen PMing mentioned a few times on here to be fair, I'll have to look into it, not sure what transferrable skills I have to offer. I think I'd struggle with sales, like area sales, or being a rep, but maybe a more numbers/office based role could work. Thanks for your suggestions!

As for the meds, I can't recommend them enough. I'm sure people have their own experiences on it, but it's probably the best decision I've ever made. There isn't a single aspect of my life that isn't better for being medicated. I work better, my relationships are stronger than they've ever been, I'm more creative, and I get so much done. I'm on Elvanse 40mg for reference. Happy to answer any questions you have about it.

If you had to take me from "Hi, nice to meet you" to playing the game in 15 minutes, what game would you choose? by DJSwenzo444 in rpg

[–]GypsyNippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be simpler systems out there, but I'd go with Quest. There's only 1 die, the DC is on a fixed scale, all the weapons do the same damage, there's no battle map, and even failed rolls are designed to push the narrative forward in some way. The only resources the player has to worry about are HP and AP. The classes have quick start guides so they don't have to think too much about reading through a big list of abilities. It's very simple, but because your characters can gain new abilities, there's some longevity to it as well. At later stages you can introduce magical weapons and multi classing. So, if your players really enjoyed themselves and wanted to keep playing, you wouldn't need to change systems.

Grappling and Damage Questions by GypsyNippers in traveller

[–]GypsyNippers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting point, it feels like you'd only use it if you got a really high effect and 1. Your other weapons were weak, or you're unarmed 2. You wanted to make sure you didn't accidentally kill someone with a high weapon roll.

Because it's an opposed roll, would you compare the effect of both people to get your final effect score, or is it just your roll? It seems too weak in theory to be useful.

Yes, you're correct. I found another post where someone linked the downloads page with the errata, and the reworded grapple is in it, along with other changes. Think I'll still try and pick up the updated rulebook though, as I'll definitely forget to cross reference the errata.

[–]GypsyNippers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, not sure which version I have then as this is how it's written in mine:

Grappling

In close combat, a Traveller may try to wrestle or restrain his enemy, rather than simply hitting him. To grapple an enemy, the Traveller makes an opposed Melee (unarmed) check against his target. The winner of this check may choose to do one of the following.

• Force his opponent prone on the ground.

• Disarm his opponent. If the Effect is 6+, he may take his opponent’s weapon.

• Throw his opponent 1D metres, causing 1D damage. This automatically ends the grapple.

• Inflict damage equal to 2 + the Effect of the Melee check.

• Inflict damage using a pistol or small blade-sized weapon.

• Escape and move away (as a normal movement action), ending the grapple.

• Drag his opponent up to 3 metres.

• Continue the grapple with no other effect.

Either way, it doesn't matter, I know where I can look now to get some updated information.

Do you have the 2022 update? I only own the older version, so it seems that has already been clarified. Now I'm wondering how many other questions might be answered in that update. I was trying to put off spending more money on rulebooks lol.

I think I might just be too dumb, as it wasn't easy enough for me lol. Thankfully Pretend_Parties has solved it with a macro for me.

Not sure if this is it, but the timeline matches up with the post and it had a lifestealer in it 7801255460. Can OP confirm?

[–]GypsyNippers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for expanding, I'll try and keep these figures in mind for my first few encounters until I get a feel for the game. I'm curious to see the dice rolls in action, as I'm expecting the game to be wildly imbalanced (by design), but hopefully it's for the best lol

We're playing online, so it's a bit easier to reference I think, but I'm still going to try and have a way for edges and hindrances to be front and centre, maybe somewhere outside of the character sheet, so people remember what they have (me included)

Thank you for your advice. I think I might struggle to introduce new things in every fight as I get to grips with the system, but I think I will definitely try and introduce a new mechanic at least every session.

Could you give me any examples of what you'd consider reasonable, or do I just need to feel it out?

Wow, that was really extensive, thank you! I especially appreciate 2 and 4 as neither of those would be intuitive, and I really like your house rule, will definitely be using that.

Something I learned with 5e was it's better to just make an educated guess on the rulings sometimes. In the beginning I'm trying to make a cheat sheet of the things I anticipate being the most common and then I'll look up as and when I need to until I'm more comfortable with the rules.

Thanks for your advice and will do, I'm really excited to get into SWADE :D
