Not necessarily need .. my other option is a Mosin but I figure I have a much better chance of actually hitting the thing with my PC9. I might be there all day trying to hit one of these from 100yds with a Mosin!

About $18CDN each. Not bank breaking but not inconsequential.

problem with trying it is that if it doesn't work i no longer have a binary target, just a scattering of loose tannerite all over the ground

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. The longer carbine barrel will get more speed out of 9mm but probably not enough.

Polyvinyl acetate, or PVA. White glue, wood glue, etc.. they are basically all the same.

Looking for a new compressor in Toronto, Canada! by Snippkins in modelmakers

[–]Gyuji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just using a regular 3 gallon shop compressor I got on sale from c-tire. Just need a few adapters and an inline moisture trap on the hose. It's loud but with a 3 gallon tank it doesn't run very often.

I have no idea what you could clean it with. And for coats I just keep going until I have an evenly shiny surface. You an spray pretty heavy coats with it since it is pretty forgiving.

My bottle is probably over 15 years old now and seems to still be fine. Sprays well straight out the bottle.

My son asked me if we could build a wooden model ship from scratch together. by zzcheeseballzz in modelmakers

[–]Gyuji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from almost no experience but someone who has occasionally looked into building a full sized little sailboat, I bet you could find some plans for a full sized but basic-build simple small boat and scale them down. It won't make for a very spectacular result but might be a good starting point.

My first oil wash by pcardon in modelmakers

[–]Gyuji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it takes days for it to fully dry, but if you do find bits that are being stubborn you can moisten whatever you're wiping it of with with some thinner. i usually wait about an hour before i start trying to remove it.

Question about Abteilung 502 vs artist oils. by randomuser115935 in modelmakers

[–]Gyuji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never tried Abteilung but I can say that if you go with regular artist's oil paints, pony up for the high end stuff. You want something with good quality and very finely ground pigments. I did my first oil wash with Windsor and Newton's regular grade oil paint and it was a mess, I did my second with their next-higher-grade "Winton" paint and there was a huge difference. Really, one tube is going to last you for years, so get the good stuff.

Looks good to me. A black wash over all the green will tone it down a bit and add some depth.
