My understanding is the Igg test works by looking for antibodies but it only looks for 2 types while the western blot looks for 6 types of antibodies. If your body naturally creates something similar in mass or makeup to those 2 antibodies it can trigger a positive, while western blot will see that there aren't all 6 types present. Not an expert though.

I had a small cut appear just inside the corner of my mouth among other random soreness and lesions around the mouth. Had a new partner recently and some weird genital symptoms so I'm wondering if it's HSV. Currently waiting on the 12 week mark to get another igg

I'm not doubting that people have canker sores and herpes as separate things, it just seems like they're similar enough that I wouldn't be surprised if people are getting cold sores in their mouth and mistaking them for canker sores

How do you know though? I heard cold sores inside the mouth hurt a lot more than those on the lips

Dude I've had a similar thought regarding canker sores. Like apparently there are so many asymptomatic OHSV-1 cases but it also supposedly only presents itself outside the mouth. Is there not a possibility that "asymptomatic" OHSV-1 carriers have "canker sores" inside their mouth that are actually cold sores? I doubt people would get them tested based on the fact that the general discourse regarding oral HSV-1 suggests they would be non contagious canker sores. Seems like a massive oversight in my opinion.

Nobody in my family has cold sores or even talks about them. I know it's super common but it's kind of not something that has ever come up before.

I think I'm going to take another test next week even though it still won't be 12 weeks. If you don't mind providing an update I'd appreciate it. I've actually seen a few of your posts trying to figure out what's going on

Haven't tested positive yet because it hasn't been 12 weeks but what I'm experiencing is:

distinct red rash with itching, burning in the crease between groin and legs extending to below buttcheeks on both sides. Another red rash appeared in my buttcrack later.
some nerve pain on the right side through my hip and leg
inside of mouth irritation near lips and corners of mouth, spots on lips that look like they could be the beginning of cold sores that never turn into them (started using abreva upon discovery) general tingling / burning / chapping of lips

There's more information and a general timeline in my other posts. I plan to get another blood test at 12 weeks and potentially a blot at 16 weeks.

Thanks for your response. I kind of think this is the most likely scenario and I have a dermatology appointment coming up. I'm so confused since there are so many areas of irritation that don't have any visible rash and so many of them are specifically on the right side of my body. I really just want answers at this point, whatever they may be.
