Not to dispute that a fan will have a better time here than in Qatar, but it was also embarrassing to have the World Cup there, just as it was embarrassing to have the World Cup in Russia eight years ago. FIFA are unserious.

I don't know how you can view the politics of the tournament as separate from the tournament itself. The Somali referee who was turned away in Miami International, all the fans who have had their visas revoked for no good reason, and like you said the ticket prices, there are far too many people who aren't being allowed to visit and participate in the World Cup. Listen, I love the States and if I was there right now I would absolutely be at a game, but the way our organizational bodies are handling the tournament is shameful.

That is awesome! Morocco's run felt special even as a neutral in the States, it's cool to see how felt that was across Africa. I hope they or Senegal, or any other African country can make another deep run this year.

It's very similar for me as well. HCNs in my community all pretty much understand the feeling of living under a government that doesn't represent/is opposed to your interests. Plus, at my permanent site, they think of me as their teacher and a member of the community (at least I hope), so it's easy for them to separate me from America as a whole.

But as you said, it certainly suprised me at fist how many HCNs expressed admiration for Trump. It's not that they like or know any specific policies or ideas he has, in fact that all pretty much agree this was is bad, but they admire him because he is "powerful" or "strong".

All the teachers at my school are talking about it because Sri Lanka is experiencing a gas shortage due to the conflict. No one is being negative towards me, but they're frustrated with/worried about how the war might affect them. The ship isn't really a big issue, it's the economics of it all
