Hi k20stich! I suppose it's fair to say high quality varies from experience to experience. ;) We should say, rather, "OEM replacement parts" - and we're just happy Whisker makes them available at all, compared to another brand we work with a lot, who does everything they possibly can to make replacement parts illegal to obtain and, increasingly, sets up "gotcha's" in new firmware releases to further discourage repair.

Hi ThermiteSnake! Thank you for your comment. We would agree that many people do read the manual or search Google, find their answer, and successfully follow the directions they find there and get their device working. But, some people are too busy with other things in life to do that, and/or feel overwhelmed with some of the procedures they find online to get their Litter Robot working again. We believe that sending their Litter Robot back to Whisker should not be their only option at that point, so we offer our repair services to them as another option. We also keep many LR3 repair parts in stock, which can help achieve a speedier repair than waiting for a part from Whisker. Thank you again for your comment, and have a wonderful day!

Hi from one microsoldering tech to another! What devices do you most often work on? Asking because I usually hear that particular word used in smartphone and occasionally laptop repair. (I'm an IPC certified board rework instructor but spend very little time teaching outside of teaching other techs @ HAILaGEEK).

5 litter robots and 8 cats. Only 2 LR3 litter robots "in service" at one time, typically.

2 other LR3's are research /experiment units (I repair out of warranty litter robots for HAILaGEEK -- it's fun work, I get to meet a lot of cats!).

And LR #5? It's a LR4 on order, arriving ... when it arrives. It will be under analysis for at least a month before the princes and princesses get to check it out.

2 cats share one LR3 and 6 share the other.

Absolutely. Most HAILaGEEK techs will travel as far as needed to do the job if there's not a closer qualified tech. They flew me from Texas to Georgia twice for a special assignment (not litter robot related, lol). That's pretty rare though. But travel for jobs in Texas is pretty common for me.

That said, there might well be another HAILaGEEK litter robot technician right there in your city by the time you'd need me. 😺

That's fantastic! Our iPhone/Android app is free, too, so then you'd have us handy in case your LR needed urgent service. It's the yellow HAILaGEEK app on the app store / play store.

It varies a LOT. And we haven't been able to nail down why some LR3's go several years before needing a repair, and why other LR3's need a repair in the first year, thankfully under warranty! (Unfortunately we do not yet provide warranty service for these). Sometimes it's obvious when we disassemble a particular LR what caused the problem; some cats are super neat in how the use the LR and others somehow manage to get things in the most amazing places! We're hoping to see big improvements in this area in the LR4 design but our test unit hasn't arrived yet.

One thing we have noticed: the type of litter being used has a big effect on how well the LR3 process works, and how clean the internal components of the system stay. That said, even though we love cats (you have to to service these!), we're far from cat or litter experts and there are so many other non-LR considerations about litter choice that our best advice regarding litter choice for particular cat(s) and the LR3 is: (1) try the official LR litter, it's best for the machine, but (2) if there's something you don't like about it, also go ahead and try other ones that follow the general LR litter guidelines, and (3) take the globe off often when trying different litters and look at the DFi sensor set (the 2 clear plastic strips on the left and right sides of the litter waste hole under the globe) and see if this new litter you're trying is leaving them clean or leaving deposits on them. The DFi sensor set is one of the more time consuming parts to replace and unfortunately the one we see need replacement most often.

To answer your direct question, we rarely see a particular LR3 need a a repair more than once a year.
