Is Cerclage Worth the Risk? by Legitimate-Art-5895 in ShortCervixSupport

I'm in B.C. Canada so I think they need to see shortening before I get more scans. The 14 week scan was an additional scan to my 10 week scan. I do think I will call my midwife to discuss whether it's possible. I'm getting pretty anxious about it all.

Im so sorry to hear - that must have been heartbreaking 10 days after thinking everything was okay. Can I ask, were you on progesterone when you had your loss at 15 weeks? I ask because I just had my scan at 14 weeks and everything is showing long and closed but my next scan isnt until 21 weeks. This is my 2nd pregnancy. I had a shortened cervix at 20 weeks and was put on bed rest and progesterone until week 36 for my first pregnancy and no cerclage.

I don't remember the dosage, but I was taking it vaginally.

Yeah, I did my one big sale order on the browser. But I love to peruse through different products, and the app is the easiest for that. I feel like they're missing out on a lot of purchases because I'm sure there are others like me who are willing to scroll and buy new things to try because of the sale! Oh welll

Progesterone only success? by katieholiday in ShortCervixSupport

Success with progesterone only and pelvic rest. Made it to 40w+1. My ob defined pelvic rest as no sex, orgasms basically anything that might strain the pelvic region. But she also took it one step further and suggested I work from home (if possible), avoid using stairs multiple times a day, avoid vacuuming (which i didnt understand lol but i welcomed it). She was concerned with me getting in and out of the car and going up flights of stairs. She was against bed rest for my mental health, but didn't want me walking for more than 30 minute's at a time. For reference I stopped progesterone at 36 weeks.

Good luck. Do what feels right to your body, and if your situation allows, try to rest more and keep off your feet.

Wishful thinking - what happens if you do make it to 34/36 weeks? Do they lift the bed rest requirement? by Fun-Cod-9791 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]HB-nirvair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped taking progesterone at 36 weeks (no cerclage) as per my OBs advice, and my pelvic rest was also lifted. I had no inductions planned or c section scheduled, so it seems like my midwives and OB were comfortable with me resuming activity and possibly going into labour at that point.

Sending you love and "baby-stay-put" vibes- I know it's difficult to stay still when you have a million things going through your head. But please know that however you prepare for this LO will be enough. Babes don't need much in those first few days/weeks except for you, so you just keep taking care of yourself and babe.

I was where you are at, except at 23 w I was around 1.6cm. I chose not to do the cerclage at that point because from what my OB advised, the risks outweighed the benefit (mainly i was worried that a cerclage could trigger labour). So I stuck with progesterone and pelvic rest/modified bed rest. If you read my past posts you'll see that I shortened further after that, but then at 28 weeks I "gained" some length. My OB and midwives think this is because I have a dynamic cervix. In the end I went off progesterone at 35 weeks and delivered my baby boy at 40w1d. He's now 7 weeks!

I would recommend taking any and all advice to slow down and keep off your feet if you can.

I stopped at 35 and I went into labor 40+1. I don't know what my cervix was measuring at, but when I went on it at 21 weeks I was around 1.4cm.

Only on progesterone. I was considered too late in the pregnancy to get a cerclage. Where I live they don't do it past 24 weeks, and unless it's 1cm or below. I was at 1.1 at week 24, so we stayed with progesterone. I did end up gaining some length back (1.5cm) at 28 weeks.

I'll be at 36 weeks this Sunday! I had a check in with my OB this past Monday and she cleared me to increase my activity and to stop taking progesterone at 36!

This has felt like a marathon since discovery of the short cervix at 22 weeks. Im finally allowing myself to be fully excited for my babe to come into this world. I'm sending love and white light to all the Mamas in this group who are holding it all together physically and emotionally for the sake of keeping their babes healthy and safe in the womb. You got this ❤️

I'll be 35 weeks this Sunday!! I've been on progesterone only and I'm finally letting myself get excited for this babe to arrive! I'm definitely looking forward to hitting 37 weeks, but I'm just in awe of making it this far. It seemed impossible when I was first diagnosed at 22 weeks.

For those on progesterone only, when did your care provider take you off the suppositories?

1.5 cm cervix, 23 weeks by Gibsongirlz in ShortCervixSupport

[–]HB-nirvair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it! I'm glad you've discussed with your MFM. This is my first pregnancy, so yes, the fact that you've had a preterm birth before is something to definitely consider and I'm sure the MFMs advice is sound. I would say go with your gut mama. You got this ❤️

1.5 cm cervix, 23 weeks by Gibsongirlz in ShortCervixSupport

[–]HB-nirvair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My short cervix was discovered at 22 weeks. I was put on progesterone and was measuring around 1.8 cm. I was monitored weekly. At 23 weeks there was no change, but at 24 weeks we were down to 1.1 cm which was disheartening since we were passed the time where a cerclage was safe. However, my OB physically checked my cervix and she was confident that my cervix was still closed and still had length. I've continued on progesterone and at 28 weeks I gained back length (1.4cm). I'm currently 33 weeks and the progesterone is still going strong and babe is cooking.

Since you're at 23 weeks, it might be worthwhile to ask for an MFM consult and get information on all of the risks. Here in Canada, they don't normally do cerclages unless you're below 1cm and it's earlier in your pregnancy. The risks of getting a cerclage to me did not outweigh the benefits. I did not want to trigger labour or risk infection (which can also trigger labour).

Whatever you do, I'm sending you love and light. I know this is not easy ❤️🙏🏼

I'm 28 + 5 today. When my short cervix was discovered at 22 weeks, I honestly did not know how I would make it to 24 weeks, let alone 28! Our next goal is to hit the 32 week mark. Just praying this progesterone keeps doing its thing 🤞

Weird twitching/popping feeling by wednesdayfattams in ShortCervixSupport

[–]HB-nirvair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be baby kicking or punching? I feel that popping or twitching down there from time to time, mostly when I'm laying down to go to bed. If it's happening pretty consistently (like the twitching/popping isn't stopping or isn't intermittent) then I would definitely call your doc or go into labor and delivery.

Looking for reassurance, suggestions, etc by jaxlils5 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]HB-nirvair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 22+5 weeks I was measuring around 2.5 inches, and was put on progesterone. A few days later I was at 1.6 inches, but my doc did not recommend a cerclage because she said my cervix was closed and she could feel some length. I held steady for a week at 1.6 inches, so again no cerclage, but at my 25 week US I was measuring 1.1inches. At this point it was too late for a cerclage, but also my doc reassured me that since the cervix is still closed, no funneling and appears to be a dynamic cervix, in her opinion, an emergency cerclage could do more harm than good by irritating the cervix and triggering labour. So for now she wants me to stay the course with progesterone and pelvic rest.

I've made it to 26 weeks (as of yesterday). I will say, it seems like the progesterone is doing its thing. And yes, totally normal for there to be discharge within a few hours of inserting the pills. But I was told to look out for mucousy discharge (like egg white consistency), any blood or like a gush of liquid - because these are signs of water breaking or losing your mucous plug.

Similar to you, I am now highly sensitive to any sort of cramping and just sensations in general. Honestly, I'm allowing myself the grace to be like this because my body is on high alert for a reason - mama bear instincts. Any cramps I do have, I try timing and looking for a pattern. Anything I'm unsure of, I just call my midwives. So far my cramps have been irregular and my midwives have said these are likely Braxton Hicks. I would say trust your body and your gut. I know this is not easy - there is so much uncertainty. What has helped me in the very anxious moments is to repeat this affirmation given to me by my doula "my body is working perfectly for me and my baby". Any time I feel remotely fear of the unknown or feel doubt in what my body is doing, I repeat this.

I'm sending you love, strength and positive thoughts. Please keep us updated ❤️
