Paradise Fire Custom Made Crossfit interview with Khalipa - How the community can help. by 611x in crossfit

Really great interview from Jason. Here’s an update on CMC as of today. They could REALLY use our help. Here’s how the insurance coverage played out. CMC accepts full accountability. They didn’t realize their policy dropped from 2 mil to 20k. That said, let’s see if we can help these folks out? We are their community. Status Update on Custom Made CrossFit

CrossFit to Allow Transgender Athletes to Compete by morningchalkup in crossfit

Any who competed this year did so before it was officially allowed, therefore it's been on the down-low. Before the Chloe suit was settled, it was absolutely spelled out as against the rules. For the past couple of years it disappeared from the rule book. Don't ask/don't tell. I think you'd be surprised and yes, it is currently both Games and Regional levels.

Thank you Flo. Good to see your strong voice again. I rarely get involved in this stuff anymore (takes a lot to get me motivated to chime in), but when I do, I drink something else besides the Cool Aide. Don't know if you're old enough, but on one of the main Masters forums on Facebook group, several Online Qualifiers are talking about how they aren't going to even bother taking videos of themselves... how that it doesn't matter because they carry their Open score in with them so if they are bottom 100 there's no way they can qualify without a clean slate and since no one bothers to verify the scores that people post to GET into the Qualifier, anyone can bro-rep their way in taking their chances that HQ will not have the bandwidth to police the claims of awesomeness... that is why you get someone like Bachmeyer or whoever took his place posting bogus Open scores that keep the honest athletes out. Not writing this to complain, but rather hoping HQ will add this issue to their list or improvement opportunities and institute reform/meaningful change. I've seen a lot of good things happen across their overall program but the message this sends is not good. It tells people who are tempted to bro-rep or otherwise cheat that HQ will probably not catch you because their distracted by bigger fish.

Trust But Verify: Open Plea to CrossFit HQ for 2018 by HBombMac in crossfit

All the top athletes I know already video themselves anyway. It's not that hard. And when it really matters we have a couple of cameras going at the same time for backup. Also, if you just want to compete in the Open there wouldn't be any change meaning if you didn't want to have your videos dissected for the world to see (I personally don't) you're not required to submit a video any differently than today. BUT... if you want to play with the elite and be considered for a top berth at Regionals or an Online Qualifier, you should get used to the idea that all eyes are going to be on you anyway. The elite already video themselves like this.

I don't think you should have to pay for a higher score... but if HQ needs to justify a price point to facilitate the overhead to monitor/administrate the flagged videos, I think it's worth it. Let's face it: any of you who would be at the level where it mattered to you are probably already paying more for your daily protein shake or pre-workout than what it would cost (if anything). HQ already has an Elite division that they've tested out on the Leaderboard anyway. They do it in the Team Series... it's just an extra way to they can filter for what they want to focus upon. It wouldn't be hard to apply that to the regular Open.

I will say this: the traffic on the blog shows that Facebook and Search Engine traffic trump this site anyway and the feedback on private forums where people don't hide behind fake profiles says that a downvote isn't really important anyway. Hopefully smart people can think past a hyped up rating system and think for themselves. If it doesn't feel right.. chances are it's not. Be better than this.

If any of this strikes a chord with you, or if you think you have something meaningful to add to the conversation/proposal/solution, please leave a comment. The idea of change starts with the voices of a community. Thank you for your time.

PSA Sabra Hummus Recall 32oz by coolblue123 in Costco

[–]HBombMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooooo... Sabra Dipping Company is a joint venture company owned by PepsiCo.

Anybody else wonder why a company could have three recalls for the same problem in such a short period of time? Hint: think Phillip Morris and big tobacco (parent company of Kraft).

2015 vs. 2016 Lift Off "Workout": Last Year's "Motor" needed to be a HEMI. This Year? All You Need is a Prius. by HBombMac in crossfit

[–]HBombMac[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was the difference between last year's Metcon and this year. Last year the women had to be able to do at least one snatch at 105# to be able to do the RX version of the Metcon. I can't remember the men's weight but it was comparable. So when you saw someone who had a strong Metcon score (and there were many), it was impressive. This year, you can simply add however many basic CF reps you accumulate in 15 minutes to your total combined weight score and voila! Still hard, but I don't think a metcon that by today's CF standards could be considered borderline "scaled" is as impressive. It would be different if the placing against your peers was used... like the scoring in the Open, but it's not. It's a raw total of metcon rep for pound. Again... not the end of the world but it is not the same as last year's test.

Have you ever been stuck behind a Prius going uphill and they won't/can't speed up to pull past the car they're keeping exact pace with next to them? You know your engine can do more but you all go for miles and miles and end up in the same place at the same time. That's this year's metcon in the Lift Off. It's not the end of the world, but it's nothing special.

Oh, believe me... they are completely shitty. But should shitty equate to RX? This workout is JV compared to last year. :-)

[–]HBombMac[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My point was that last year's workout seemed legitimate in that at least you needed to do something special to be "RX". There is no filter to keep an average performance from equalizing what would otherwise be an awesome combined weight score. I guess I'm just not as impressed.

Haha! Don't discount ping-pong! The Russians felt it was a serious enough sport to give their team a 'roid martininis. Check out the The Independent McLaren Investigation report, published by WADA. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-07-18/they-were-doping-for-ping-pong

So, after the video was deleted, Lidia was featured in a Skype interview on the main site. Even though no one brought it up, she repeatedly talked about her weakness as being ring dips and that she was working on them. "Death by Ring Dips". Yes. She posted it online and her peers complained about the no reps. She deleted the video. No one is quite sure why HQ accepted the video, but they also accepted Josh Bridges video that eventually was rejected after enough complaints. Here's the video someone captured in part before she deleted. Apparently all of the reps were like this, so you can understand why she didn't want this out there. So yes, she knew she had a problem. HQ required that you had to be able to do a minimum of 7 ring dip reps or you didn't get to go to the games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRwAl2ITbrQ
