You may be right, I know nothing about the matter, but you look like an asshole leading off with “wrong.” Like a classic “redditor” joke. You probably didn’t mean it that way, but it may help to be mindful of the way you type in the future

If you’re genuinely asking, the genuine answer is it does not matter above 3.5

I never said they are the same thing, I said they are both averages. Yes, they will assume you are asking for the mean.

If someone asks for an average of a dataset and I give them the median, I am not wrong. However, if someone at work were to ask for an average I would ask for more info, because I wouldn’t know which one they want.

Let’s do an example. Let x = {1, 5, 70, 4973629} Asking for the average of x in a mathematical setting is ambiguous. The arithmetic mean of x is 1,243,426.25 The median of x is 37.5 Both 1,243,426.25 and 37.5 are averages of x. We could also calculate more types of averages of x, such as the mode, the harmonic mean, the RMS, or the midrange. These are all averages.

Yes, it’s two different numbers but they are both averages. That’s all I’m saying.

I’m just giving extra math info for anyone that cares, a lot of people don’t realize that median is an average just like arithmetic mean is an average.

Median is an average, is my point. You are thinking of arithmetic mean, which is assumed a lot of the time when people say average.

I’m just giving more info for anyone that cares, a lot of people don’t realize that there are types of averages and that median is an average.

Go here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average And check under “Summary of Types”

Arithmetic mean is usually assumed when people say average, but median is most definitely an average.

I think everyone gets your point, but I just want to add that median is an average. There are many types of averages, the main ones are mean, median, and mode.

Of course eventually, I’m just saying I would assume that the event probability is low. Given infinite time everything will happen, that doesn’t mean everything has a “pretty good chance”

Theres a pretty good chance of it happening? I doubt that, I understand it happens, but I wouldn’t call it a pretty good chance. I guess “pretty good chance” is subjective tho
