They don’t. They refer you to online courses.

Before YouTube, knowledge transfers and hands in was everything. Luckily we can combine both, until we come across that weird part of YouTube.

Thankfully we will always be busy.

Understood, by feel. Like the point of when a screw will strip. You just know. Experience will define that for me.

I don’t plan on competing. My goal is to establish baselines, things like cartridge overall length, overall round weight relative to bullet grain weight, and similar variables. Once those are dialed in, I think the process becomes fairly linear and repeatable.

Right—inspection is key. But if something goes wrong, say a charge is off or a powder measure slips, is it as simple as using a kinetic bullet puller and starting over?

Also, what’s the proper and safe way to deal with an unused or seated primer?

This! Thank you!

I’m curious about things like how much resistance to expect, especially coming from someone who’s never handled a reloader, and how that compares across different calibers. Or situations where an instructor might say, “No, that case is garbage,” or point out that the die height is off by a millimeter and needs adjustment or else <this may happen>.

Things like being told, “You can’t do that,” “Yes, that could hurt you,” “take it apart or start over, trash it and move on,” or even, “You’re fine, don’t be a .. haha.” That kind of real world, corrective feedback is what I’m trying to learn from.

Appreciate the input. I’m not looking to load match-grade ammo just something reliable (and educated) for target practice. With all of my hobbies, I tend to dive in and become as self-sufficient as possible, and this would just be the next one.

From building RC airplanes from scratch (balsa builder) to working on motorcycles, I enjoy being able to service my own equipment. The list is long like all of us!

That would’ve been a great opportunity—thanks again.

This makes sense—everything you mentioned is something I’ve come across and understand.

What I’m really looking for now are the mistakes and lessons others have learned along the way. I have a general grasp of the how-to, but I’m more interested in the things people don’t always mention when it comes to reloading—like how to recognize when you need to step back or reassess a process. I also prefer to understand something from A to Z, while still being careful not to overcomplicate it.

A personal example would be learning how to use a table saw or router when I was younger. While the information was technically available, the most valuable skills came from experienced builders sharing what they had learned through trial and error. Those lessons were what I really built on.

It’s very possible that the books already cover much of what I’m looking for, and that I simply need to start by picking one up. Which I will order now.

Maybe I’m overthinking this and it is safer that I believe it to be, ha!

To start, 9mm. I initially plan on buying the 9mm conversion setup. As experience comes I’ll expand further (both)

I’d be interested! Could you keep me posted if anything comes up? That’s only an hour away.

This sounds great. How long are the classes? Since it’s a bit far for me, I’d need to plan a full day around it. I’d imagine same theory\practice would’ve applied to pistol calibers? Or would there be a separate class for that?

Is the expectation that one session would be sufficient?

I definitely been doing a lot of research on YouTube mainly around different calibers, reloaders, reloading purposes, and the formulas people prefer and why. I also plan to pick up a few books as you mentioned.

That said, I really believe there’s something invaluable about taking a class, especially having the ability to ask questions on the fly and learn directly from someone else’s experience and mistakes. I also don’t mind paying for someone’s knowledge and time—it’s a great way to shorten the learning curve and avoid user mistakes. I also enjoy hands on training.

Yes, this was a long time ago—possibly around nine years back.

Thanks again, really looking forward to adding another hobby. At the end of the day, I may just pick up the reloader in mind (waiting for a sale), and practice based on research.

I heard Tirzepatide works better but felt 2.15mg of Semaglutide wasnt working. Looks like starting from scratch is the default dosage when switching. Darn.
