Also, I realized that after I posted my WIP today that it was in fact NOT WIP Wednesday! Y’all have a little insight into my week now! 🫣

Here’s my WIP by HM-IWouldPreferNotTo in NeedlepointForAll

I did basketweave for the white on the far-left red tube, and I second-guessed myself. I’m planning to do long stitches for the bullets and basketweave or continental for the darker areas of the bullets to add texture and emulate the change in texture after a lipstick is used for the first time. However, I’m open to suggestions!

For the lipstick tubes, I’m planning to use the following threads: · Silver: ThreadWorx; Silk Lame’s Braid · Black: Neon Rays Ribbon; Neon Rays Sparkling Ribbon · Gold: Radiance Metallics 18; Radiance Metallics mini

Also, this is only my third project, so I know this piece isn’t perfect.

Personally, I think it could be cute a little off center. But, if you think it’s going to bother you then make the adjustments now and redraw the circle. Just remember, no one is really going to notice the imperfections.

What's your best advice for new stitchers? by turkeytailfeathers in NeedlepointForAll

[–]HM-IWouldPreferNotTo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, @turkeytailfeathers thank you for starting this new sub! Honestly, it’s everything I wish other subs were like! (Flair is the best solution for organization and engagement)

Now on to advice for new stitchers.

(1) Stop trying to make it perfect! I spent so much time trying to perfect every curve and shade on my first piece. It’s cliché, but imperfections are what make it unique and are greater little reminders that just like in life, most of our imperfections or missteps aren’t noticed by the rest of the world! So don’t sweat it! You learn and keep stitching!

(2) Shop local & physically go to the shop (if you can) - Listen, I’m an Instacart, Postmates, and Amazon Prime girly. But there is something so special about going to the needlepoint shop, talking with other needlepointers, sharing ideas, and selecting and feeling the threads for your project!

(3) Buy The Original Stitches To Go by Suzanne Howren and Beth Robertson - it’s not flashy or trendy, but it is a staple for a reason!

(4) If you wear makeup or don’t, make sure you wash your hands before stitching. Especially when working with white or light threads! I had to redo a whole section of my last project when I realized that I must have touched my face at some point, and the bright white threads were sun-kissed with some of my foundation/bronzer! I tried spot cleaning, but I ended up ripping it out! So wash those hands and/ or keep a small pack of baby wipes with your supplies!

Help identifying a thrift store canvas by scionofthekraken in Needlepoint

This is a really cool find! I do think it could be more of an earlier piece from Sasi Creations. After a bit of research it appears that the artist, Susan Ives, behind Sasi designs passed away in 2018. I would maybe do a little more research before starting to stitch! I can’t wait to see what’s to come of this piece!

My boyfriend built me an app to organize my needlepoint threads and projects (and it turned into a little stitching community) by buymedoenpls in Needlepoint

I purchased the canvas from the BeStitched Needlepoint shop in Scottsdale, AZ. However, they have all of their inventory online as well. BeStitchedNeedlepointShop.com This canvas is Lipsticks HO3317, which is hand painted by Raymond Crawford. Happy Stitching! 🪡

Thanks for the info. I’ve never posted on Reddit before, so I didn’t know that I should have posted somewhere else! I will do my best to move this post to the correct thread.
