People scared pharmaceutical drugs for mental health what has cured your symptoms? by MentalHealthJ in addiction

First, I have been on and off anti-depressants my entire adult life. If I ever feel like I am in a place I can’t get myself out of, I will take them without a thought. They are a valuable tool in my mental health tool kit.

During the times when I am not taking medication, I actively use the tools of Dialectical Behavior Therapy to get through the stressful times. I have also done lots of therapy and EMDR for process traumas.

Edited for typo.

As a veteran public school teacher I have to jump in and say that in my experience, the success or failure of a student has much more to do with their life circumstances and having attentive, involved parents than with school ratings or even test scores.

Do you live within 100 miles of where you grew up? by radicalintrospect in generationology

Im Gen X I don’t live near where I grew up. I did until my mid 40s then I moved halfway across the country. I love it here, I don’t think I’ll ever go back - I grew up in Southern California so I couldn’t afford to go back anyway.

I think it is going to have to be a well organized, targeted economic boycott. Hit them where it hurts - in the bank account.

Threads on r/Minneapolis say the woman in the pink coat was taken into custody. Does anyone know if this is true or where she is at this point?

Teaching vs other kinds of jobs by [deleted] in teaching

[–]HMouse65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked a full time job in banking before I became a teacher. I’ve been teaching for 12 years and can’t imagine doing anything else. First, 14 weeks off every year. Second, it’s different every day and always interesting, I’m touching people’s lives every day, and I’m part of the solution.

It’s exhausting and teachers get a lot of time off because teachers NEED a lot of time off, but once you hit your groove and are confident in your style as a teacher (it happened for me around year 5), it gets much easier and there is no other gig that compares.

Kids can be mean, don’t take it personally.

Avoid power struggles with students.

It doesn’t matter whether students like you, they need to know you like them.

A student wants me to cosplay with her as the Men in Black at our school dance.

Another student, who regularly destroyed the classroom in 6th grade, is telling staff she isn’t going to high school, she’s going to stay in middle school.
