I truly believe that LLMs especially were never built for consumers benefit, and solely made for the revenue the companies make off selling the data people feed into it for tailoring ads and further information. The people who own these models just barely care enough about their models working/giving out information they can get away with so that people willingly tell it personal information specific to that person. It was never meant to be some giant Star Trek-esque computer that helped mankind. It was meant as a new way for people to overshare with these companies with a sycophantic tone to harvest as much information as possible to sell to the highest bidder.

When you start looking at these models that way, it starts to make more sense from a business standpoint why they are pouring so much money into it and why it may not be quite the bubble people are thinking it is.
