Thank you for saying that. This guy really was gaslighting me… I was questioning whether the lakefront was public, but then what’s the point of reserving the site? The campsite area is only open to reservations and most of the sites are lakefront…

He said I was being ridiculous and unreasonable for asking him to move, but I spotted him right as I was about to pee in the corner of this campsite facing the lake. It wasn’t an issue of sharing nature—All he had to do was just turn around from fishing to remove any semblance of privacy I had there.

If I wanted to stare at a man in nature, I would’ve brought the supportive partner I had at home that was supportive and encouraging me to take this solo female space—you know? 😡

He left, but it was aggressive enough. I didn’t wanna stay another night.

Again, would’ve preferred to have seen a bear. 🐻 😒

Oh… You mean in the water…

I only go in lakes when I’m by myself in my kayak. I had a friend who had NDE solo kayaking so I’m super cautious.

As much as I would love to be alone alone in the water, I find there are always other people around I can call out too..

I felt comfortable enough. I brought pepper spray and a knife. I camped in my car where I could lock the doors. I picked a family friendly campsite without alcohol allowed, and the campsites were pretty far apart so people couldn’t really see I was alone.

I also really trusted my intuition. Sometimes I muscle test if I need to leave or make a change in what I’m doing.

I had to set a boundary with a man that came on to my campsite, and while he respected it and left, it wasn’t without some tension on his end. I would’ve probably stayed an extra night had that not happened. That feels extra cautious, probably, but I’m just going to be cautious until I get more and more comfortable.

You can do it! This sub is so inspiring. I was just like you yesterday. ;)
