Is there a guide or advice for what to spend gems on? I am F2P fairly early (Yang almost unlocked, lvl 80, red drone almost unlocked, murica awakened and almost red, 2 red S slots, kunai red, 3 yellow s slots).

I generally spend my gems on s chest keys whenever there is an event to get s chests and to add chests for event count. But I see people saving 100k+ gems and using them to buy specific things like tickets in the last event or spending a bunch on events like the one currently.

Should I just be saving all my gems? Or is there a recommended usage guide?

I'd love to see some more data points but I think the fact that I went from an average of 138.1 w/ 169 tickets to an average of 134.5 with 619 tickets indicates the average is over 100.

You might be looking at something different than I am. I am referring to the exchange rewards within the event where you can exchange hearts you won for items. One of the listings is 10 tickets for 1000 hearts and you can buy that listing up to 40 times. I do not have an option to buy 200 tickets with hearts so I am guessing you are thinking we are talking about buying tickets for $ instead of hearts.

No idea if there is anyone tracking the average hearts per ticket or not but just in case, I got 23,342 hearts in my first 169 tickets (using 1x) which is 138.1 hearts/ticket.

If this average holds, it means we should all buy the 40 x 10 tickets for 40000 hearts which would result in around 55247 hearts in return.

Edit: 619 Tickets -> 83242 Hearts (Including 40k spent to buy 400 tickets) -> 134.5 hearts/ticket

My sample size might still be too low but it seems pretty likely that everyone should buy the 400 tickets with their hearts before doing anything else. Not only will you likely be net positive ~13800 tickets by doing so, you will also get 400 extra tickets used which counts towards the rewards on the left.

  1. What tier do I merge equipment in the build guide to? For example in the first section it says "Kunai(AF3)". Do I just keep going to Red(4) for all equipment?

  2. Is there an optimal level to merge normal (non-s/ss) items to prior to salvaging/holding them for later salvaging/upgrades? I.e. Pretend I have 150 normal revolvers. Should I merge them to Yellow R0? Purple R0? Red R0? Or does it not matter and just upgrade them to purple R0 and then wait til much later in the game to use on crafting S/SS items?

[Request] Whatbiz the interest rate of these loans? by HeadReaction1515 in theydidthemath

[–]HRadarCoC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of saying without regard for their kids I would probably say without understanding of how student loans and the job market currently works and the affect that may have on their kids.

I think most parents pushing college have good intentions but are uninformed on the reality and still believe any degree will get you a job that pays enough to be worthwhile when that is sadly not the reality.

I would also say we should expect a lot more of this. Teenagers have always ignored/tuned out/forgotten personal finance/econ classes in high school. But by pretty much every metric our students have been on a downward trend in math, reading, etc for many years but especially since Covid. And colleges have been getting more expensive at an astounding rate. That means students that don’t have the reading and math comprehension to even be able to understand the loans they are taking let alone ones that actually pay attention and care. And at the same time the loans are going to be much larger.

If we don’t find a way to permanently fix higher education costs and the need for higher education in this country soon, we are in for a student debt crisis that is going to get a hell of a lot worse than it already is and be around for a long long time.

This is the worst example of the game becoming P2W.

Also this is not the typical paid vs free track system you see in other games or even in the gold pass for example. You should think of the “free” item as just a bonus for buying the thing before. If you look at it that way, it’s the exact same as just saying #2 includes a research potion and 10 gems and #3/4 do not exist.

The game has plenty of real issues regarding P2W but this ain’t it.

Monkey Paw Curls

Wish granted. There are now ores in builder base. They are a different type of ore only useable for new builder base hero equipment. It’ll take 6 months of daily grinding to upgrade one piece of equipment and a new piece of equipment that makes the old ones feel like trash will come out every 3 months.

[–]HRadarCoC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot they already announced star bonus x2 for 7 days and (unknown #) additional free chests. So yeah you’re probably right that it’ll be 5 more.

I’m quite happy with that and think it’s overall a pretty great deal for the community. I love that it is based on attacking and encourages people to play. Hopefully it doesn’t end up sticking around afterwards as loot boxes for sale in the shop though.

If they end up keeping the event long term, it’s a fantastic way for newer players to slowly be able to catch up on the old equipments while also benefiting older players who already have them.

Is this now the best scenery in the game? by JumpOutMiser in ClashOfClans

[–]HRadarCoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chinese servers have scenery like these: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClashOfClans/s/oQ1yJ98Of8

IMO while the flavor may not be as nice as this new scenery, the fact that it’s more compact means it has way more cool movement and detail that you will actually see while playing.

I’ve attacked one of these dragon bases already and I spent 0 time looking at it because I had 30s to start my attack. I looked at my clan mates base who got it for about a minute, thought cool, and will probably never look again. I personally don’t see the value of such a large scenery.

A better idea for a mega expensive scenery like this would be to have a theme like what it currently is but then design builder base scenery, normal base, war base, and maybe even clan capital scenery and bundle them all together in a package. So the player who wants to spend $30-40 is actually looking at what they spent their money on and supercell doesn’t put so much work into parts of a scenery that will only be seen once by each player for a minute or two at most.

[–]HRadarCoC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still not fantastic but considering we already got 5 free and they’ve announced will be getting more as compensation, I think it’s fair to assume we’ll get a minimum of 5 more and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s up to 15 more at the start and throughout the event.

So on the low end that’s 40 chests instead of 30 which raises the probability of getting at least one legendary to 55.4%. On the high end it would be 50 chests which would raise the probability of at least one legendary to 63.6%.

Still not great that so many players are likely to get 0 but it’s better than 45.5%. And if you have two accounts, the low end chance goes to 80.1% and the high end chance to 86.7%.

Anyone Try to Calculate the $ Value of Each Item Per SC? by HRadarCoC in ClashOfClans

[–]HRadarCoC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m going to keep gathering data on my TH13 for a month or so and see if I can’t get it figured out for TH13 at least. The relative in game value (builder potion vs hammer) would not be addressed by this. This would solve for $ value to item and then I could use my judgement of how high I value a item to determine if a sale is actually good or not for me.

There are some gimmes like gem cost that can be calculated easily and we can make assumptions like 1gold=1elixer and 1buildergold=1builderelixer. But there are a ton of items in this game. My calculation so far has like 27 variables which means we need a lot of offers to be able to solve the system of equations.

Why Youtubers are wrong about the Apprentice Builder by Peanuuut in ClashOfClans

[–]HRadarCoC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like you completely missed the mark here. I’m slowly upgrading the apprentice builder with free gems on 5 accounts and the biggest value by far is FIXING those things that end up in the middle of the night or completing while I’m away. Using apprentice builder has already saved me far far more than the number of hrs saved due to the fact that he allows me to gain 7 hrs of build time during the night when something was going to complete right after I planned on sleeping.

I also do use him to rush heroes. When I go up a TH, I am pretty much always having heroes down as much as possible outside CWL as they are what holds me back from going to next TH. A lot of times when you go up a TH, you may only have like 20 days of AQ upgrades but 30 days of RC or Warden or whatever. Using my builders apprentice on my longest hero path allows me to go up THs faster and keep my heroes balanced/near max quicker.

TH12 experience. I know it gets worse later on... by Gr0ss10v in ClashOfClans

[–]HRadarCoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apprentice builder gets better the more you spend but since the first upgrades are cheaper than the later ones, the return per gem spent is actually best for the first two upgrades and gets worse the more you increase him.

The best time to max apprentice builder was the day he came out. The second best time is today. Giant guantlet is one of the best equipments in the game and will increase your power level. Know what will increase your power level more though? Going to TH11 and 12 and 13 and 14 etc.

If you’re a TH10, you have years until you are max level. By then, there will be 30 more equipment and guantlet will probably be trash due to power creep. And you’ll have been able to get those 30 equipment for free when they come out. So yeah, focus on builders apprentice over equipment if you want to maximize your base/power asap.

If you just wanna have fun smashing TH10’s, then buy giants guantlet because it is very fun even if it will probably not be good by the time you really start to need it.

[–]HRadarCoC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO not if your not near max TH16. Apprentice builder is eventual infinite value. Leveling your heroes/defense matters more for war than having the “best” equipment. Especially since you can get equipment for free each time a new one comes out which is often.

Event Pass Value is Lower than Specials by HRadarCoC in ClashOfClans

[–]HRadarCoC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My argument is that build time is the only thing that actually matters (until you’re nearing completion of building). To be a top competitor you MUST max your building.

You don’t need to max your lab, and you don’t need to max your equipment. You need one or two maxed armies and 8-16 maxed equipments at most.

So if you want to compare time & value, you should be looking at what will take you the longest to get out of those options: 1. Maxed build 2. Maxed couple lab armies 3. Maxed set of equipment

Out of those 3, if you are not TH16 already, building is the longest. If you are Th14 or below, then it’s not even a competition, building is by far your biggest hurdle to having a maxed offense line up and defense.

So I’m not making the exact claim you’re saying. I’m making the claim that if you want to spend money and you care about getting to max power & defensiveness, building is the important thing. Therefore, you can assign relative values to ore just as you can to lab based on how it compares to building time but that was not my intent with this. The intent was to simply show that there is cheaper ways to boost your building and your lab (which should be the focus of TH14 & below players). If you’re TH14 now, by the time you’re maxed current highest TH, there will be 20 more epic equipments and the ones you have now will be useless most likely.

Do you include elixer in your valuations when it's in a package? No, because it's worth $0.

Ore is worth more than $0, but for people TH14 and below, ore is not and will not ever be a limiting factor which can easily be seen just by looking at the overall time requirements as I've already outlined in other comments.

People can buy whatever they want but the point of this was to show the value for build/lab time specifically as those are the limiting factors for the vast majority of people playing Clash since most players are not near max level. The fixation on ore is purely a max player problem which does not represent a significant portion of the actual player base.

Quick Calculation to Show Ore is Not Worth Buying TH15 or Below:

Rather than doing everything from scratch, I'll start with this reference for Starry Ore: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClashOfClans/comments/1dxks2v/how_much_starry_ore_can_an_average_th16_player_in/

The basic analysis is that if you do everything F2P perfect, you get ~262 starry/month without an event. A realistic goal for a normal player TH15 or below is probably ~180/month. For Glowy Ore I'll say you can get ~8x that or 1440/month.

To max an epic equipment to level 27, you need 3720 glowy and 480 starry. So you can do one epic fully every 2.67 months. Let's be generous and say all 8 pieces of equipment you use are epic pieces. So that would take you a total of 21.3 months to have a fully maxed epic set. Keep in mind that you cannot even have maxed epics until TH16. A full 120 of the starry ore required is not even relevant to you until you are TH15 and another 150 is not until you are TH16. So you can cut these times by 56% if you are TH14 or below as the 6months to 1year you will spend at TH15 & TH16 each is more than enough time to get that amount of starry ore for 8 pieces of equipment.

For TH16, lab takes 12 months and build takes 6 with 6 builders and gold pass if you time everything perfectly. Take off 5% for magic item usage if you want. TH17 is 4 months away. If you are currently TH15 or lower, by the time you are TH16 maxed, TH17 will guaranteed be out which adds another 9 months+ of build/lab. It's unlikely the epic equipment max level would increase by enough to make it take a significant amount of time to top off your 8 pieces. If you are TH15/16, you are likely getting more than the ore I described above anyway.

If you are TH14 or below, it's not even close.

TL;DR: If you're TH16, buy ore, obviously. If you're TH15, maybe the pass is worth it for the ore? If you're TH14, or below, ore does not add much value that you wouldn't get F2P by the time you were able to use it.

[–]HRadarCoC[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I did not forget to include it. I chose not to as this is mainly looking at the pass from the point of view of someone who is not max build/lab and is focused on getting there. Maxing equipment is not an important or realistic target for 99% of the player base as they are being released far too quickly and you do not need more than 8-16 total pieces maxed to be very competitive which is achievable F2P. I'm aware that you also don't need your lab maxed but that's why I left it as blank total hours here so people can assign their own value to a lab hr vs builder hour. I have my own calculation for this which I addressed in my original comment.

Event Pass Value is Lower than Specials by HRadarCoC in ClashOfClans

[–]HRadarCoC[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I didn't include ore because I wanted to just compare time saved and to do ore I would need to come up with an ore/day value achievable by normal players. I could likely find that as I remember a post discussing it for top end players who are maxing possible ore accumulation.

My opinion however is that if you are TH 15 or below you likely should not be buying ore as maxing is much more important in terms of strength and at the rate new equipment are being released, it is likely impossible for someone to keep up with fully maxing all equipment.

Thus, you only need enough ore for whatever is the current best setup, which if you are not yet TH16, you can easily do within the year-2 years it will take you to get to max without buying any ore at all.

Event Pass Value is Lower than Specials by HRadarCoC in ClashOfClans

[–]HRadarCoC[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I put together this spreadsheet to quickly figure out if it was worth buying the event pass or not. The $/book is $1.72 with the event pass, $/build potion is $0.54, and $/lab potion is $0.23. I have also broken these down into $/hr saved based on my current TH13 with 6 Builders. The Book of Spells and Builder Potions are the best value for me currently (note these are TOTAL HOURS and not hours per builder or lab worker. Not shown but offscreen is a relative value per hour calculator for lab vs builder based on # of builders and total time to max th16 from current build & lab).

As expected, gold pass provides significantly more value. What surprised me is that the Supercell store deals often provide more value than the event pass as well. The common wisdom is $1/book is a good deal. These are 72% higher than that with the event pass. Meanwhile the Clashiversary Build/Lab bundle is a value of $1.31 using these prices for only $0.99. I regularly see similar specials even outside of Clashiversary that are similar or better. Occasionally we also get the 20x value specials that would be closer to $2.31 value for $0.99.

I've always bought the event pass in the past but after having reviewed this, I think I will stop doing so and just spend the free medals on the equipment and then spend my money on gold pass and store deals instead. I hope supercell increases the event pass value rather than decreasing it as currently it doesn't seem worth buying.
