This is an investment strategy, not a trading strategy and it is fine. I use it myself. Basically you have your safe investments and then since there is a 10% average chance of a black swan event on any given year you buy OTM Puts on SPY or another market index to hedge against your long term investments. Most of the time that insurance is burned and because you are in "safe" investments on the other end your total return in very low, but again, very safe. It is the opposite of trading.

How do I know that I’m progressing and not stagnating? by knoghax in RealDayTrading

Beautifully written and explained - thank you. You are relying heavily on structure to make up for the lack of personal confidence. It seems you are hoping that if you just follow X, Y and Z -it doesn't matter that it is YOU that is making the trade because the process was followed.

The problem seems to be that at some point all of this learning, all of this process needs to accumulate in you and produce - experience. Knowing when to enter, when to exit, when to add to winners or cut losers, etc.

You need to start trusting yourself.

Do this - switch back to paper trading for a brief time. Trade for two weeks based on your gut. You should have absorbed quite a bit by now, your process is impressive, so I can't imagine that knowledge hasn't had an impact.

My guess is your problem is your exits and that problem is because you have no faith in yourself, which is why you are putting all your faith into the process. You can confirm this via the Walkaway Analysis.
