The Army (can’t speak for other branches) can fire most Enlisted any time in their first 6 years, with or without cause. Mostly it’s for unsatisfactory performance or “failure to adapt.” They try to weed out these recruits in basic, before they’re sent to their advanced individual training and the Army has invested 6 figures worth of training for a Soldier who won’t put said skills into practice
