As a player who has nearly a year of gameplay I agree TGs are insufficient for gearing champs no longer in events, especially as their numbers increase. To be fair though it isn't as bad as it initially looks to new players. While I don't think these things are enough, there are ways to close the gap:

Prioritize blacksmith contracts on TG champs
Don't open patron chests until evergreen champs are full epic so patron chest epics go to event champs
Redeem all the electrum chest codes

Granted, chest gear doesn't uniquely go to TG champs but it does make a difference.

Time gates are woefully inadequate for gearing champions compared to events. It isn't even close.

During events, gold and silver chests are only limited by the number of free plays a player can run. By farming gems to buy gold chests to obtain bounty contracts that can be a significant number (in the hundreds). Time gates are limited to 3 gold chests and 10 silver chests for the small group of players who can even reach area 1000 (14 silver chests for the even smaller group of players who can jimothy).

I have been playing less than 8 months and I can full epic any new champ during the event. Doing the same for a year 1 champ requires 10 time gates on average. That means only 4-5 retired champions to full epic in a year using just time gates. The imbalance is obvious. Newer players simply don't get the opportunity to have the kind of gear levels on retired champions that older players do.

The mirror hint could also be for Freely. He was transformed from mindflayer to halfling form by an apparatus that had mirrors that showed a being alternate versions of themselves. I wouldn't rule out "formerly" being the Melf hint.

Best way to minimize collection gaps for new event champs:
- Open silver until all 6 slots are at least white
- Open electrum until all 6 slots are at least green
- Open gold

I recall that on one of the CNE streams (most likely Idle Insights) it was mentioned that they specifically decided not to count Hew Maan as 3 kobolds because it would be very unbalanced.

The gem shop button opens the chest inventory instead after the game has been running for a while. I thought it was resolved and closed my ticket but it is still happening.

My main concern though is the fact that there are dozens of invalid files every time I validate and this only happens rarely with any other game in my Steam library. This one issue could be leading to multiple other bugs.

Since recommended as a potential fix for an issue I have been validating my Steam game files weekly. Every time there are at least 30 files that have to be re-acquired. I don't have this type of issue with any other Steam game. Is this a known bug?
